… I don’t like them. xD I don’t find them terrifying, if I loved a rabbit, I’d love his eyes. But if it were up to me, he’d have eyes that aren’t red or pink. However, in my experience, rabbit people seem to be quite fond of red-eyed white rabbits. What do you think? (:

(Just talking about pigments, of course, not infections or the like.)

Well, I used to not like them. But after knowing several buns with them, I can’t say that I hate or like either more. It’s really no different than blue or brown eyes to me now. Even my hubby is sayign we should adopt a REW some day now, cuz no one else seems to want them. There are 2 beautiful REW girls at OHS that have been there since August last year… no one wants them, even though they are beautiful, friendly, playful girls

Oh, I love the REW’s. I help at a guinea pig rescue and they have the same problems with adopting the REW piggies too.

To me the REW’s are just the classic rabbits and I’ve never met one that I didn’t love. I’ve had many REW’s and found them to be quite beautiful and they all had lovely personalities. I don’t really understand the prejudice against this type of coloring.

I’m not a fan, honestly. I’ve met some fantastic REW bunnies and I would actually like to have one someday, but I do think they’re less attractive than bunnies with dark eyes. In a similar way I feel that lop earred bunnies are more attractive than uppy eared bunnies, but I’ve seen REW eppy eared bunnies that I’ve loved. Go figure!

I’ve always felt this way, even when I had albino gerbils (I preferred the brown-eyed white ones)

I never liked them until my friend got her red eyed california girl. And she is adorable.

I think it might have something to do with the fact that I’m squeemish. The red really brings out the pink in the ear and makes it look really veiny somehow… they just don’t seem to look as soft to me, if that makes any sense at all.

But again, personality first. I actually perfer lops strongly to other rabbits, which Tank is not, but I don’t think I could love a human baby as much as I love my rabbit xD

Nothing against the bunnies themselves, but the red eyes freak me out. I was so happy that Keelie and Kylie were blue-eyed!

I think REW’s are gorgeous. Actually I think REW’s are soooooooooo mellow and really cute. Ive had REW’s and found that they were actually my favorite. (Dont tell Zoe that, lol)  Ive seen them as newborns and ive always favored more the REW dont ask me why I just do maybe its because i know alot of people are prejudice towards them. When I fostered there was an REW I named her stella and she was the last to go since it was hard to find her home but she was the sweetest of the bunch. She was just lovely!!!! The only thing I noticed was she didnt like the sun so much and later found out by the vet that REW’s due to the pigment of their eye were a tid-bit sensitive to sunlight.

I don’t mind them at all. In fact, they’re gorgeous. I think they are misunderstood because of the color of their ruby eyes.

I chose Ruby cuz of the REW and  I know people tend to shy away from them .     At first I wasn’t too fond of them.   After a bit got used to it and I find her quite beautiful

What is neat is when I have her up close her eyes tend to have an opaque blueish to them.  Very interesting any one else notice that?

Zombie-Sue, have you seen a REW bunny in person or just from pictures?

I absolutely love red/pink eyes! I actually have a preference for them. I like them on rats and most other animals as well and it seems I am one of few which confuses me. I honestly see nothing wrong with them. I think they’re like blue or purple eyes or some other pretty pastel eye color like that. I think people shy away from them because people don’t have pink eyes so it seems “unnatural” somehow. No judgment, but this upsets me a bit. I don’t like discrimination based on appearances of ANYTHING.

                                Jersey,

I’ve seen them at the shelter. They seem fleshier! I can’t explain it.

Actually, according to the poll, the majority don’t even care

I don’t dislike them, but I prefer non-red eyes. I imagine it’s akin to my preference to straight-eared buns over lops… no big deal, and nothing against the lops, many of whom I find utterly adorable. I do think it’s sad that a lot of REWs are stuck in shelters simply because their eyes are red. I’ve actually had someone tell me that they had two bunnies growing up, a red-eyed and a brown-eyed, and she avoided the red-eyed because the color scared her!

REW Lover here! Bindi has pink eyes but they have sort of a bluish tinge to them. They are not as red as a true red-eyed bunny. I think all bunnies are beautiful no matter the colour of their fur or eyes.

I think that most rabbit lovers are non-prejudiced against them but a lot of non-bunny owners think they are creepy and I find that very sad.

Well I have one red eyed bunny and one very dark eyed bunny and I don’t think it ever occurred to me to prefer one or the other, they’re just my bunnies. Although when I was home said that Kate looked evil. Poor Kate bunny 🙁 of course he also said that Spencer looked like a gerbil. My brother can be a jerk. :-p
I do think that with Kate’s really white fur and the gray ears and nose that her red/pink eyes make her very distinctive looking! One downside is that it’s impossible to use red eye removal software, not only does it remove the glowy red camera flash but it removes her eye color and makes her look like a yellow eyed alien bunny! So Kate pretty much always has red laser beams in photos 😀
So ultimately I would say I like the red eyes, I don’t prefer them over dark eyes or vice versa, but I wouldn’t have Kate be any other way!

I prefer non-red eyes, but that said I am quite fond of them purely because most people don’t. So I’d probably end up with the red eyes because of that!

I had a red eyed rat as a kid (well, he was really a family rat) and he used to sway his head side to side. I can’t remember why now, but it was something to do with his vision and red eyes. I loved that.

Honestly, I much prefer how dark or blue eyes look, and never thought we’d end up with a REW. Then miss Delilah came along! I didn’t even realize that she had red eyes when I first saw her picture on here and didn’t think to ask until the long distance adoption had already happened lol. It’s ok though, it’s quite fascinating. We’re getting used to it. They’re not red really, but pink with a bluish tinge…kind of pretty! It makes me sad that they’re so overlooked because of their eyes, I know I’ve been guilty of that in the past too.

She does seem to fit the REW stereotype…very, very sweet and loving!

I did not used to like REW buns, or rather… I just never gave them much thought. But having been on BB for a long time, I’ve gotten to “know” beautiful, amazing white bunnies, many of which have/had red or pink eyes. The more I’ve seen pics of them and heard about their STELLAR personalities, the more I’ve come to truly love the classification. I hope to someday have a REW of my very own. Until then, I will be admiring everyone else’s!

(If you are looking for a bun who is more likely to be intelligent and cuddly and friendly… don’t overlook the REWs.)

It really surprises me that they are over-lookedi n shelters, since most shelters require that an adult adopt the animal, and you’d think an adult would know to overlook something like that.

Can this happen with other animals? But you don’t get REW dogs and cats as much as small furries I wonder why? I’ve had REW hamsters and rats before they’re gorgeous. We tend not to call them REWs over here in my experience I’ve always known them as ” True Albino” Anyway its just a lack of melanin in the skin (colour) For instance a panther is a leopard with too much melanin. Sorry it’s 9am and I’ve just got up lol I’m babbling!
