Rebonding two rabbits (m&f) after spay

I have to get my one girl bunny (scotty/Scooty) spayed, but she’s already bonded with a boy bunny named lucky (I know, it was the only way to make everything work back then they had to get bonded otherwise I would have bonded after lol) it’s not the end of the world, and I have another bunny who’s paired with two (neutered, all my boys are neutered) bunny’s, they came like that and I’m unsure how to give them their healing but their bond has always been a bit tentative anyways, but maybe we could bond those two if need be, or we can have girl number two (Draco) come up to my room with Scooty and lucky. Scooty refuses to be penned though, she’ll literally hurt herself trying to get out so I don’t know how to make sure she doesn’t try to jump up on my bed or get into things that will hurt her either. Where taking them to a vet that did really good with girl number three, (Willow/The Stink) so at least we know the vet lol. None of this is end of days (thankfully) but Itd sure help to get a game plan

I’m having a bit of trouble following your post.  If I read it correctly you have 2 pairs, a m-f and a m-m, and all the boys are neutered? And then another female that you want to add into a trio? Is your question about what to do with the m-f pair?

If your m-f pair is already bonded and the M is already neutered, I think you could try just keeping them together the whole time, as long as you are able to monitor them closely. If you notice signs of trouble you should separate, so you should be prepared for that possibility with extra cages etc.  You will need to restrict her space, even though she will be unhappy about it. So you’ll either need to get a hutch for her, a large dog crate, or a secure pen that she can’t jump out of. Perhaps something with a secure roof will prevent her from trying to jump out? Maybe you could make a temporary NIC cube cage?

Hi! I have a lot of bunnies (all rescued, all indoors) all of the boys taht I have are spayed (5) one girl is spayed, and the other two girls are going to be (8 total, yes I knwo it’s a lot but we do manage) I have a set of three taht came bonded, and one is a unspayed female luckily the two boys were spayed as soon as they got to the sanctuary and before female (Draco) was even born. This is confusing but the sanctuary I saved them from was not a good place and I’m very glad I saved them. I have a pair of two, the male (lucky)  and female (scotty) who are in my room right now, the female in this one is unspayed, all the other bunnies are currently single bunnies in an area where tehy can clearly see the other bunnies. God I hope this isn’t too confusing lol. But anyways, I can just keep scotty in my room with lucky? I have some x pens taht I can try to make work im jsut scared taht she’ll end up opening her wounds because I swear to you SHE REFUSES lol she’ll literally scratch and bite the cage and go run around like a crazy person and she’s also jumped out easily out of the only pen we ever put her in, which was about the height of two xpen grids so we gave up with that. Since she’s a jumper though I don’t want her to hurt herself jumping like that. She’s also attacked my coat and my me before and I mean liek hunted me over the course of several days thank god she calmed down because for a bit I was terrified of her she really is psycho!! But I think she’s used to the smell of the bunny we had brought home around that time by now. Our girl we already have spayed is an escaper too and she is in my step brothers room, we didn’t pen her (mainly because she can jump over four xpen grids) and she was perfectly fine thank god I was really worried about hwo that was going to go since there’s a bed she loves to jump up on. Sorry for the long reply but eight bunnies are hard to summarize in short sentences lol

I have 4 bunnies so I can imagine the complications of 8!

I think my main concern with having unspayed buns around bonded pairs is that they might upset the relationships between the bonded buns. Hormonal rabbits (and even non-hormonal rabbits) can trigger issues in pairs and trios. BUT, you have so many rabbits in your house, that it might be less of an issue because the area is already somewhat overwhelmed with bunny smells. So I would just keep a very close eye on your pairs and trios and be ready to separate them from the others if they start showing any issues. Sometimes even hanging some blankets or towels to block sight of the other rabbits helps.

I think with the jumping rabbit you should figure out some sort of roof for her pen/cage. NIC cube grids are really useful for that, or even a sheet clipped on top might be enough. After her spay I do think you will want to confine her to an actual cage if she is that crazy of an escape artist. She will be very unhappy with you during that time, but it’s temporary! If you can give her lots of extra boredom-buster toys during her healing that will help!

Lol yes they’re so nuts!! Thankfully there’s not as many problems because they’re  all used to smelling each other by now.

sorry I toke so long to reply, I’ll try to figure out a roof for scotty but I feel bad she’s going to be so pissed lol! It’s worth it though :/, and yes I’m trying my bets to keep an eye on my trio and pair thankfully teh trio are a lot calmer these past couple weeks and have been very cute with each other

Also I didn’t even think about toys!! (I mena of course tehy all get toys by default) taht makes me feel a lot better because She’ll have something to try and murder to keep her mind off it. I’ll probably have her still in my room with her bonded friend lucky then, who will no doubt be very confused lol, hopefully tehy dont form a plan to break her out but even if tehy do then thank god he’s neutered!!
