So after my bunny had a blood clot in his back at the start of this year the vet and I have agreed he probably won’t ever be able to use a ramp again if he hasnt by now, so it was new hutch time.

I’ve got him a nice sized one level hutch but the bottom is raw wood. Will this be okay even if his pee gets into it? Or do I need to cover it with something to make it a bit more pee-proof?

He usually gets newspaper and hay but due to a wee nose infection he’s only allowed towels as bedding to stop anything irritating it more.

Also he is not litter trained but if need be we will work on that

It would be good to protect the wood. You could put some peel and stick vinyl tiles over the wood.

I agree with @DanaNM that it would be good to cover the wood. It’s one of those things where you can’t really “deep clean” it once pee gets absorb. When I first got my Wick, we had a converted dresser as his cage and the wooden ramp was a pee hot spot. I’d soak it in vinegar/water spray, but it was impossible to actually clean.
