I just want to know if you can give Rabbits raspberry and blackberry twigs that still have the thorns (I am assuming not, but then am I shaving the twigs before giving them to bun buns?)

Also I hear it is sacrilege not to include pictures of bunnies – so included a Gif (Kiwi is the black one, Sunny is the white one RIP, Mango is the Happy Binky Bun lol)

I dont give my bun blackberry twigs because they have those very sharp thorns. The thorns are an adaptation that deters wild animals from eating the twigs. If you can shave them I think that is brilliant.

The types of raspberry we get where I am don’t have much in the way of thorns, at least not the more tender parts at the top of the plants.

I dry the soft light green spring blackberry leaves for use during winter.

VERY cute video — thanks for sharing.     I would also steer away from twigs with sharp thorns.

Also — with RHDV spreading, be sure that IF you are wild picking any low branches, that they are not in an area of known infection.  If you are not sure or just want to play it safe, then you would need to store the branches away for 4 months as a type of quarantine.

              Hello!

I just wanted to give my experience with raspberry twigs.  I have 10 acres in the middle of nowhere and have tons of raspberry/blackberry bushes.  I regularly cut raspberry branches with thorns and my bunny gobbles them up.

They are generally undeterred by the thorns, he’ll often chew them off first then proceed to the rest of the branch.   I give him probably 5-10 small branches a week and have never had any issues,  wild bunnies often favour these branches as well.
