        Ok…so…I’ve been thinking about something.

Is there ANY way to tell the difference between a Californian or Himilayan? I know that weight is the major difference, but I can’t tell and I don’t have a scale. Even if I did she wouldn’t be still for the life of me.

Which one is  bigger again, though? I forgot, LOL.

From my understanding Californians are bigger.  I know when I was volunteering at the shelter, I would always be in awe of the Californian breeds.  Big, gorgeous fur – Just beautiful..

From what I have read Californians are about double in weight and size – 8 – 10 pounds, where Himilayans are about half that.

You can also google rabbit breeds and get a bunch of info about individual breed differences.

Californians are definitely bigger. I’ve had both and it’s really only size as BB says but remember too that many rabbits are also mixes as well.

I’ve also heard that himmies have a more long tube-like body when stretched out…if that helps any. lol I try find a picture to demonstrate. Oh, and himmies have red eyes but I think Cals can too right?

Edit: Some pics that sort of show this body shape

Is Sunny a cross breed?  She may have traits of both as and perhaps another breed too.   I just read the Californian in a cross breed of the Himmie anyhow. New Zealand X Himilayan

I think Cals have red eyes also.

This is Sunny-(I’m sorry about the akward-ness of the first pic LOL)

I think I may have a Himilayan here, but until I can weigh her I won’t be sure. I really don’t think she’s 8-10, but she may be .

                Thank you everyone!

Mmm…it’s hard to say. I sort of think Californian with that butt shot though! Maybe some himmie or Cal owners would be able to say. She could be cal cross with a smaller breed or a himmie crossed witha larger breed. I get an idea of my rabbits weight but holding them and weighing us both, then deducting my own weight from the combined figure. Not super accurate but gives you a general idea of their weight range.

She looks like a Californian to me. My Giselle is also a Californian.

I’m going to say Californian. She looks way too big to be a little Himi.

It is hard to tell from the picture – but from the picture she looks like a big gal. She is absolutely beautiful – whatever she is!
