So I know alot of people give their buns the occasional raisin as a treat, and it has to be the no sugar kind…I have the Sun maid all natural ones, nothing about sugar added (just the natural sugar)….are these okay to give? also how many is okay to give at a time, I know not to give a lot of treats at once or very often, but how many little raisins is okay?   Thanks in advance

As long as there isn’t added sugar, those should be fine. My buns are both about 5lbs and I stick to no more than 4 or 5 a day each – but typically just 1 or 2. If they get more it’s because I’m making them do tricks for them. I think some people have a strict 1 a day rule, but the main concern is throwing off the digestive balance. So if your buns aren’t used to sweet treats (like other fruits), then probably start with just a couple. And obviously, if you give other treats, then fewer raisins.

I have found that it is better to space the treats out that have sugar- so if you give 2 papaya tablets a day (or whatever treat) give one in am and one later in day.  That is what my bunnies seem to handle best.  I think even though you are giving the same amount of sweet treat per day it is easier on their gut if it does not hit it all at one time.  I found out that Cotton can have 2-3 papaya tablets a day (or 3 sweet treats daily) but it is better not to give all at one time otherwise she might have a short bout of mushy poo the next day- even though it immediately resolved itself, I still felt bad.

And for starting off you’ll likely want to give just one, and see how they do.

another thing you can do is cut each raisin in half or even thirds. it’s still big enough to pinch in your fingers, and they’re not getting a larger quantity, but they have the joy of a treat a few more times during the day. i also do this with matchstick carrots, i cut each one into 3 or 4 bite size pieces.

I do exactly what both Beka AND Katnip suggested. I cut the raisins up into smaller pieces so that I give no more than two each. ( I also do this with fresh fruit, and carrots) I also trade off with different treats and offer less sugary stuff like rosemary which they like.
