Rabbits, rabbits and more rabbits

It breaks my heart at this time of year to see rabbits advertised as ‘Special Easter Gifts,’ ‘Ideal for Children as first pet.’ ‘Fluffy Bunny free to good home, great with dogs and cats.’ ‘Free to good home, Bunnies!’

The only thing I have found near Easter about Rabbits are a lot are running in the fields, because the weather is warmer and they want to play out, nothing to do with Easter and I’m pretty sure they don’t lay chocolate eggs.

The first Easter Bunny legend was documented in the 1500s. By 1680, the first story about a rabbit laying eggs and hiding them in a garden was published. These legends were talked about in the United States in the 1700s, when German immigrants settled in America, I’m part German so you can blame me too for this pork pie (Lie) lol.

Ideal gift for children as a first pet? No, bunnies are not toys, unless the parents are willing to take responsibility for the care and spend time with the children, bunnies do not like to be picked up all the time.

Fluffy bunny free to good home, great with dogs and cats, yes some dogs and cats will be good with a bunny and Bunny will be good too, but sometimes it does not work out, some other animals get jealous then attack, we had a dog that loved the animals we kept as kids even hamsters and he was so gentle but we still had to keep an eye on him, we knew he was good with animals because he carried a stray cat into the house that had been in the shed for a month and put her in front of the fire and went to sleep next to her.  

Free to good homes, Bunnies! Sadly some of these get picked up by dog owners, Bunny never sees the nice home they were promised and end up in the back yard with 2 big dogs running after them, not all bunnies, but some.

A lady came in at my old job to ask about a nest she found in her yard. She said she was digging to plant some flowers and uncovered some eggs buried in the ground. She wanted to know (and I’m dead serious here) if they were rabbit eggs.

Oh my goodness LBJO… rabbit eggs? Seriously?! I can’t believe how many people are uneducated about rabbits!
Pinky, I totally agree with you. It makes my heart break to see so many rabbits given away and pet stores being filled with baby rabbits that are too young that will just be abandoned.

LOL, well they couldn’t possibly have been turtle eggs. She didn’t believe me that turtles will go quite far from the water to dig a nest.

If they were large they could maybe have been elephant eggs, who knows, yes turtles will go for miles to make a nest.
