I really need to find a new home for my two rabbits. I am in college now, 2 hours away, and I’m not allowed to bring them with me. I know I should have thought of this before I got them…but there’s not much I can do about it now.

So, here’s a little about my two bunnies:

Jack is around 5 years old. He is a neutered harlequin dutch rabbit. He’s such a sweetie! I am very attached to this guy.

Flopsy is probably approaching 2 years old. She is a tan and white lop eared rabbit, and quite a bit bigger than Jack. She is not spayed. She doesn’t like being picked up but enjoys being pet, and she loves to eat.

I would only consider separating them if they each go to a home where there are other rabbits. These guys are used to being out constantly. They are kept indoors and I would prefer them to stay indoors.

If they go together, they will go with their 2-story cage, food, hay, treats, litter, toys, etc.

I am located in Kansas City, Missouri but I attend college in Columbia, MO and sometimes travel to Clinton and Warsaw, MO.

Please email me at [edited – contact via BB Message Center] if you are interested

          KNG5,
First, we do not allow posting of email or other private contact info. in the forum, so I have edited out your email address. They can contact you by just clicking your User name to get to your Message Center.

I am not sure we allow solicitations for rabbit rehoming here either. I will check with BinkyBunny about that. In the meantime, since they are indoor rabbits, I would urge you to make an arrangement with your family to keep and care for the bunnies while you are at school. They have been in your home for years now, right? They are bonded with each other and with you. This is a very traumatic thing to put bunnies through and if you can possibly maintain the life they now know, with some family help, that is what is best for the bunnies. You may find that in a year you will want to move off campus into an apartment and be able to take them there with you. I urge you to try to keep them.

Yes, have you asked friends or family? Perhaps you can make a deal with them to keep them while you are away at school.

I never had a rule for this. This section is geared towards non-profits, and only until recently have I seen more of this type of posting. I do understand why people want to look for “bunny” lovers though, however, I am not sure how comfortable I am with BB becoming a sort of “Craigslist” type bunny rehoming service, so we will be watching this closely. As of right now, we do not have an official rule in place. (though that may change – we’ll see what the future brings)

With that being said, we can use this opportunity to help people find alternatives to rehoming if it is at all possible.

KNG5 – There are actually several college students (and ones soon to be) here and they have figured out a way to keep their bunnies either with them, or with family/friends while they are away. I agree with Rabbitpam that this really is stressful, and you can never really know who you are adopting them out to. We did have one member who was VERY careful about having people fill out adoption forms, she met with them, and she still found out that the lady that “adopted” her bunny turned right around to sell it for profit.

it also sounds like you love them very much as so hopefully you can find an alternative to rehoming them.

I would love to hear from our college members, as well as people who had bunnies through their college years so they can help you find solutions
              How old are your bunnies?
