So yesterday there were several quakes around California.  I don’t live close enough to any of them to have felt them, buuuuut I’m wondering if Owen might have.  Or at least might have sensed something as “off.”

See, I was sitting down to eat my delicious dinner of peanut butter toast not quite knowing where Owen had gone to when I heard a loud scamper and saw a streak of white literally fly across the room.  Ok, it’s not unusual for him to get spooked by incidental noises and over-react, but when I followed him to the corner he ran to he went and ran the other way.  Any attempt I made to get close to him and he ran in the other direction.

He finally settled down a bit under my computer chair, where I could get to him without spooking him more.  He was clearly scared out of his mind.  Once I got settled next to him and was able to give him pets and head rubs he calmed down.  The rest of the night he stayed very close to me, either under my computer chair or laying on top of me while watching TV.  It isn’t unusal for him to lay with me watching TV, but it is a little odd for him to stick so close to me when I’m sitting at the computer – he usually goes off and does his own thing.

My friend’s husband made the suggestion about earthquakes, which makes sense although the timing doesn’t coincide with any of the quakes yesterday.  The only other things I can think of are that he’s terrified of peanut butter toast or he knew he was in trouble for eating my Obi-Wan Kenobi poster while I was at work (we’ve been experimenting with free-range day privledges).

Anyways, the point of this long story is that I haven’t had Owen long enough to have been through a noticible quake with him, so I’m just wondering how others who have have seen their bunnies behave.

Animals do sense things like that.  Normally they will act differently too.

Someone elses bun here will predict quakes with great accuracy too.

Another member (Markusdark) has a bun, Maryann who predicts earthquakes and will thump. She’s very accurate, within a few hours I beilieve…

I didn’t feel any of those. But a few weeks back (?), we had an earthquake We were sitting in our home office, and it felt and sounded like a big one was coming, but it never really did much but – just a little sway back and forth(thank goodness). Jack didn’t seem to notice at all.

In the past when we were in a building that swayed more (we are on a ground level house now), that would make the bunnies get into the “alert” stance and Jack thumped.

But none of them that I know of, showed any signs of predicting. Though I also have heard of animals getting more anxious and acting all goofy before one, I just didn’t notice it in my bunnies.
