Nice idea cubes from Target (or the internet) with a linoleum floor from Home Depot.. and a giant litter box for napping. Good luck building your rabbit castle!
I need ideas too, I want to build something for mine soon.
On this note: : Canadians where do you buy your storage cubes? I looked at Walmart, HomeDepot and Canadian Tire and they don’t even know what Im talking about!
i’ve modified Baby’s rabbitat slightly since this pic… the carpet patch has been replaced by staw mat (she loves to perch in this spot & nibble away), and the NIC playhouse on the right has been modified to include a phone book (her daily project) and a couple of straw placemats for digging. then she also has the diggy box. every morning i come to find any paper balls tossed out & onto the floor. if i’m not diligent they will supplement the dog’s daily caloric intake ![]()
i got these NIC cubes from my sis, who claims she got them at the price club. she swears she’s seen them at walmart (i asked since i wanted to expand the playhouse) but i haven’t checked it out yet.

We built one out of NIC panels and cable ties too. The whole thing is surrounded by an XPen.
I have the same cage as Erbear for my buns. I put wheels on mine and it’s quite useful. Since I let them play in my living room, I just roll the cage over to the living room and take some of the parts off for them to get in and out. That way, I can just herd them back into the cage rather than picking them up when it’s time to go to bed. I don’t want them to feel like it’s a punishment to go back into the cage.
I found neat idea cubes here in Aussie land.
I brought 20 of them and wiped the store out, lucky they have a few stores around so I will buy some more tomorrow.
That’s exciting….those cubes sure can be hard to find!
You’ll have to post your own pics when you get there new house done.
We are in the process of building one ourselves. My boyfriend is a carpenter, so when I say we I mean he.
We looked at a lot of different designs. From neat idea cubes to dog houses. I can’t wait to post pics of the finished product, it should be in done in the week.
"My boyfriend is a carpenter, so when I say we I mean he."
That’s too cute. Your boyfriend must be quite a guy for taking on a project like this! I would definately suggest something on castors to roll about easily for moving to clean or just to re-arrange furniture. My brother made a platform on castors for the NIC condo and it is great! I definately want to see pictures of the finished product!
Yep! Although I can’t take credit for it, my brother suggested it since they can be so heavy and movement could scratch a floor if you tried to scoot it. Besides, it’s just high enough my rabbits use it as a hidey-hole too.
Check out the cool habitats section too – members entered in alot of options! https://binkybunny.com/Default.aspx?tabid=71
Osprey – Hareiette wants to know if she can commission you to build her summer house.
Thanks some great idea’s in the habitat section.
How do you put the wooden dowles in so they don’t slide out and the shelf falls down?
for Canadians
I found mine in Walmart…I dont’ know what they are called but they are sold in twenty packs, in the storage area section, and they are sold as “build it yourself bookshelf” but they are the exact same thing as NIC cubes…I steer clear of the employees there I’ve found they are all hassle and no help!
For the bracing, I used finished 1×2 lumber, sometimes called "furring strips". If you slide these into one of the squares of the grids, then rotate it so that the longer edge is perpendicular to the floor, it will sort of lock into place and not slip. Finished 1×2 lumber is actually 1 1/2 inches wide, so it fits perfectly. Much cheaper than dowels too.
I also used 1×2’s from Home Depot but it was VERY difficult to slide them through the square grids and then rotate. But once finished, it is quite sturdy.
wow lago… you got 1x2s through? i bought some figuring they’d work & can’t manage to make it work. did you have to attack it with pliers or something?
Actually, yes. I had to bend the wires slightly with pliers to make some initial room, once you get it through a bit it gets a little easier. I also had my gf helping from the opposite end to guide it though the other side and also tug on it. It was *very* difficult, like I said, but it CAN be done and makes the condo super sturdy.

sweet… i’m gonna have another go at it and call in some ‘muscle’ if needed…lol
I got the 1x2s in by inserting them diagonally, the rotating them. They sort of "snap" into place when you do it this way.
Thanks, I will try that also
