I adopted a rabbit from the SPCA at Petco on Wedsday. I bought the Kaytee pellets she was eating at Petco. She have only eaten a few of them at our house. She loves her hay and the salad I make her every moring. I have tried putting pellets in her hay and in her salad. She will not eat them but eats the hay and salad. She have had a hard few weeks. She was an unwanted gift and taken to the SPCA on May 9th. She was altered on the 11th. That at some point brought to Petco. Then to our house.

I bought the Kaytee Supreme Fortified Daily Blend. I was told to get these ones by a girl at Petco.

The hay and salad are the most important part of her diet, so I wouldn’t worry too much. I would keep giving her a small amount of pellets every day, and maybe give her more salad (how much are you giving now?) so that she gets enough to eat. Also, try giving her a salad with a lot of variety so she can get the nutrients she’s missing by not eating pellets.

I have been giving her 2 cups of salad. I think I may try another pellet. This one is largely alfalfa. I will try a timothy based one. Thanks for the help. She is my first rabbit. My husband had them as a teen, and is only some much help.

Welcome NewBunnyMom and congrats on your bunny!! Can’t wait to see pics

Has she had a vet checkup yet? If not, when you go, I would just make sure they take a look at her teeth (both her incisors and molars). The fact she is eating hay is good sign and probably everything is just fine, but you may just want to rule out any medical reason why she may not be eating pellets.

Do you know if she was eating just fine at the shelter? If so, she also may just be stressed with her new environment as she adjusts. Just make sure she is eating her hay, greens and pooping normally.

As long as your bunny has hay and vegetables to give him his nutritional value I wouldnt be worried. Too many pellets can even cause obese rabbits. My bunny loves his pellets but I dont give him too much since hay is better for him. Good luck
