My rabbit has a reduce appetite since anaesthetic for an x ray on Monday and I had been giving him critical care and it was working to get his appetite back on track but this evening he suddenly stopped eating again and he’s acting as if his tummy is sore and I’m panicking as I can’t get him to the vet until tomorrow, I’ve given him critical care and simethecone and a tummy massage and some metacam for the pain but I was wondering if it’s safe to give him emeprid too, I don’t have much left so it wouldn’t be a full dose but I’m so scared the wait until tomorrow is too long for him all the doses are what the vet has already prescribed for him as he’s prone to health issues but I’ve not seen him this bad with his tummy and appetite and I’m so worried about him 😥

Emeprid is a gut motility drug. It’s not considered safe to give unless an obstruction has been ruled out. Is he pooping?

What you’ve done so far sounds very good. Try to make him move around a bit, exercise helps gut motility. Hopefully this is “just” a bout of gas and he might feel a lot better if he can pass gas.

Make sure he’s kept warm until you can get to the vet.

Bam, thank you so much for the reply,
I see that makes sense, I’ve seen cecatropes for him and I think he’s using his tray but I’m not entirely sure as he’s bonded to two other bunnies, hopefully he is I’m going to try and see if he uses the tray before the others and keep my eye on it, luckily the simethecone on its own seems to be helping as he seems more relaxed and his tummy feels less tense, he’s currently sleeping on his heat mat, he has been exercising in the sense he gave me the run around before I could give him the simethecone and critical care as he absolutely hates being picked up unfortunately! He seemed to have been trying to eat some forage too so fingers crossed it’s up from here but either way even if he seems better I’m taking him to the vet as soon as they can fit him in

Thank you so much your reply has helped me calm my nerves!
