I recently (about a week) got 2 female rabbits. Both of them wander around the house freely when im there, but since i didnt train them to get back to the cage by command, and they refuse to fall for the treats trick, if i get the chance and both of them are in the cage when its getting late, im closing the cage so i can go to sleep. The problem is that one of them doesnt seem too happy about staying in the cage after wandering all day, and she bites the cage bars and try to push it with her legs to open it. she cant really escape on her own, but its tearing my heart watching her struggle so much to break free. The cage isnt too small (its about 1M square) and they have everything they need inside (litter box, food, water and hay, as well as some toys.) i really have no idea what to do and how to make her stop doing this…

1m square is pretty small, especially for two rabbits. Can you add a pen to the cage so they have a bit more space? It’s great that they can roam about the house during the day. Rabbits are active late at night and early morning so if they could have more space for that, that will make a big difference

I posted on a different forum about movingng their cage to a different room in the house, used only to store a closet.the room is rabbit proof as is, and i could place the cage there and leave it open 24/7, the problem is nobody walks into this room and the rabbits would Be alone for most of the day. Currently they are in the “living room”, but its only me and my gf in the house, so its pretty quiet. I fear they wont like being moved to a room with no noise or humabs walkibg around.. As for a pen, i have no rational way of putting one in the middle of the house, and i have no means to make a pen nice and safe for the rabbits, as i have no way to gather or even buy materials no make it safe.. Do you think moving them to the room will Be a smart choice?

If you have two rabbits, they tend to keep each other company and would require less human contact. In fact some rabbits pretty much ignore their humans most of the time You didn’t mention where you got them or how old they are, but just a heads up that if they are both not spayed and haven’t gone through a proper bonding process, they will most likely fight when the hormones hit.

How big is the closet room and does it have proper ventilation? How’s the temperature like in there?

If the room isn’t an option, do you have access to a pet shop or hardware store? Pet shops usually sell dog pens which can also be used for rabbits while hardware stores carry NIC grids that you can assemble to make a pen. Take note of the gap size between the bars though – too big and the buns may escape

I agree with Kurottabun, I am ignored unless I have food haha. An xpen is the best option for a bunny’s “cage”. It gives them plenty of room to move around when they aren’t having free time but I honestly would move them to the spare room and that be their “cage” during the day and then when you are home you can let them out and roam free. But yeah, you want to make sure they are spayed and have been properly bonded. A cage should be big enough to where they can do at least 3 or more binkies and still have free room to move around.
