My 2 year old Netherlands dwarf rabbit stopped eating his pellets, he does eat the carrots and celery me and my mom put in his cage and he continues to drink his water I change every few days.

we were running low on rabbit food a few days ago and so my dad went out and bought a new bag, its from the same company, the same everything about it but for some reason he stopped.

a thing to note is that my dad is a mechanic and works in our drive way. we also keep our pets food outside in this huge bin with a resealable lid. The day after we got the pellets and put the bag inside the bin my dad spilled car oil everywhere outside and it smelled HORRIBLE but he didnt get any inside of the food bin. Im wondering if his food absorbed the smell and so did my cats but shes eating just fine. Please help!

I do just want to mention, bunnies should eat green leaf veggies, sugary food like carrots is bad for them unless given in small doses.

I would personally through the food away and get a new bag and keep it inside the house.

Is there a way you can keep his food inside the house? It protects it from animals and outside chemicals that can get through plastic and contaminate the food. Also, it keeps the food better longer since it’s not in an area where heat and moisture temperatures fluctuate.

Has he been to a rabbit savvy vet? He might have molar spurs on the vet can see, many times buns, especially buns like his size can get molar spurs from eating too many pellets and cause them to not want to eat hard items.

It may be the smell. Rabbits depend more on smell than any other sense; cats are different, so the smell of the oil would not affect them.

Is he pooping, and do the pellets feel normal? Just to be on the safe side Id go and get your normal bag, and Im sure everything will be fine.
