Rabbit scratch bard

Hello, I have a rabbit scratch board that was given to me by my mothers friend. I believe that friend’s husband made it, but I can’t be certain. She said it was specifically made for rabbits, but does not know the wood type. If anybody knows the word type I would be super grateful. What would you all suggest I do? They chewed on it a bit before I decided to take it away and that’s been a couple days and they seem fine. However I’m still a bit anxious about giving it to them. I live on the west coast of the US if that helps.

Are you able to add the photo to your media files? That should allow you to post it.

A lot of readily available wood is safe for rabbits as long as it’s untreated. However, apricot or peach wood must be dried for a month or more before they are considered safe. Things to avoid would be cedar, cypress, etc.

Not only since you can’t confirm the wood treatment/type, but also due to what it is, I would just forgo using it. I don’t see rabbits using this kind of scratching board?

Might be poplar or ash. I agree though… it doesn’t look like something that would be appealing to a rabbit. What are the holes for?

I found a product that looks the same on Amazon, it doesn’t say the wood type. It also doesn’t have any reviews!

I’m also confused about the point of the design. I imagine if a rabbit dig dig at it they could catch a toe and possible hurt them selves? There were some similar products from other brands with reviews saying their rabbit mostly just chewed at the wood.

So yeah, I agree with the others. I’d prob say “oh thank you, how thoughtful!” and then ditch it. Maybe it could be repurposed in an art project.  🙂
