Rabbit Room ideas

  I currently have my rabbits in the garage  and don’t worry no cars are parked in it and there is an air conditioner and heater in there to. I will be getting part of the garage walled or whatever you want to call it. Anyway I need a design for all you rabbit owners out there that have a rabbit room I will put pictures on here of what I have so fare but for know I kinda wanted to know what you guys have done with your space.  I also need some ideas on what to do for preventing the bunnies from chewing on the base bords. Thanks so much.

A lot of people use NIC panel and run them along the baseboards to protect them.

Oh and how would I attach the NIC pannels to the wall?

I think most people attach them to each other and just lean them up against the wall. I image you could put a ziptie around it through and then screw that into the wall at a few points to make it stay

ETA you can also buy a couple xpens and “line” the walls with those, if you wanted something with more height. Pricewise you might get more length for your $$ but I’m not sure

I just have a room, mine don’t chew too badly on baseboards. But the things my buns DO chew on I have attached some things to deter them. In the kitchen, the lower drawers are a favorite to chew, so I took crinkly brown paper (kind of like the paper bags) and attached it to the drawer so if they go to chew it, all they get is a loud crinkling of paper instead and it spooks them off… it isn’t exactly the prettiest, but it’s easily removed and replaced if say company comes over or something.

Olive has a room, and I used NIC cube’s and some zip ties to make a little hidey house/platform for him, this also covers the back corners that he likes to try to dig. the NIC panels can run along the baseboards, and they can’t get to them through it. or have you tried soap? I put Ivory soap on all my baseboards, he hasn’t really chewed them since

Just make sure there is something soft down for their little feet.

Also, if you have the option to build their room around a window, bunnies love to be able to look out the window, and sunlight is good for them. You could build a little block that they could climb up on and sit in the windo, like what BinkyBunny has in the webcams.

how many cages or pens do you have? Like, how many bonded couples do you have? What dimension are the size of the room? maybe I could help you come up with something.

I know I have a lot of cages probably about 4 I am getting rid of all of them except the ex pens as soon as I bond all of my buns together. I so far have two bonded couples and the last two of my bunnies are getting spayed and neutered in January. As for the dimensions of the room I will have too measure it really not sure right now. c=

Well for starters, you need to take the litter out of the cages, and just leave the plastic floors and a litter box. Also get rid of the corner litter boxes, they are too small to work for litter. Or fill them with hay instead, maybe. Buy some sheets of linoleum, it should be fairly cheap, and will be much easier than the blanket setup you have to clean. Once you have them trained to litter boxes inside the pen there shouldn’t be much to clean up anyway. I’d start by using the corners of the room to expand the bunnies space, buy a couple packs of NIC panels and connect them lengthwise and run them along the walls. You shouldn’t need more than 1 deep, but if you have the extra $$ 2 deep wont hurt. Then put the cages in the corner, and connect the xpens open to the walls. I have photos of my buns space somewhere to show what I mean, I’ll go bump that. You can put the 2 bonded pairs up against each other with a 2 inch gap between their bars, that will get them used to each other, but I’d put the unaltered 2 on the other side of the room to avoid unnecessary territorial marking. You really need to get a couple more xpens for the 2 in the cages, as that space isn’t nearly enough for them, even if they get a little run time.

Ok for now since I do not have the walls yet what shoud I put down for under the ex-pen? Or should I just leave it bare? Thank you so much I think I am going to do that today I am really excited!

For the xpens, I agree you should buy them now instead of waiting until your bunnies are all fixed and bonded. The pens you have now are a little small. I would buy some dog pens like this:

 

Make sure they are at least 30-36 in. tall. Rabbits can jump over anything shorter.

Also, I would buy some bigger litter boxes. You can find some pretty cheap x-large litter boxes for cats. The corner ones are just to small for rabbits.

I drew a room set up on paint for you. It is not very good but I thought it might help you.

This is a room set up you could use before you buy some dog pens

And this is a set up you could use after you get some Dog pens.

 

First Picture:

Their is two pens, one in the top left corner, and one in the bottom left corner. What i showed her is the pen goes from one wall to the other, This way it creates more room because you do not need the pen where the wall is. I would put the two bonded couples in the cages with the pens ( like you already have) . Then I put the two cages next to the pens for the single buns. ( make sure they are not touching to avoid them fighting through the bars) The little lines in the litter box is for the hay racks that can be hung above the litter boxes. 

 

Second Picture:

In this picture, I still put the two pens in the upper left corner and the bottom left corner but instead of having the bonded bunnies in them you can put the single bunnies. Then in the bottom right corner there is two dog pens ( like in the picture above)  for the bonded bunnies with the bigger cages ( that the single bunnies used to be in) attached to the pens.

End of the year closeouts, after xmas sales, free shipping offers online – I’d check those out. An xpen from Amazon for example that’s available for free shipping may save you a bundle.

Ok so after two hours of work on the rabbit ROOM here is what I have.  I reallly did not get much done at all and I moved the two unaltered ones up stars in the house.
