Rabbit on oral baytril

My rabbit seems to lose a bit of appetite on oral baytril or aventi GI paste. The GI paste is to prevent him from like side effects from the baytril l, but he doesn’t seem to like the taste of the paste. He actually like the paste at first but on the third day he’s been avoiding it and I have put the paste on oxbow digestive system tablets and that’s the only way he would eat it. Another thing is that, when I give him the baytril I wait till he eats like lettuce and stuff, and I like put the syringe in his mouth at the same time when he’s eating. But on the third he avoid the the lettuce which is romaine lettuce, he wouldn’t eat the lettuce, I was worried cause he wasn’t eating, but then I give him other things like hay, pellets, Presley, carrot, and he eat them . But I don’t see him drinking water either and he’s been slightly inactive and he’s been hiding a bit more.. I really don’t know if he is fine or not. His poop is fine

I don’t think you’re experiencing anything unusual. Baytril can make bunnies not want certain foods, but as long as he’s still eating something then it shouldn’t be a big deal. Keep in mind that antibiotics don’t taste very good. They try to cover it up by mixing it with a syrup… but some bunnies can still tell. So if he doesn’t like the taste and he was getting it with lettuce, he may be wary of lettuce now because he’s associating it with the taste. I always found it better to be direct about it. Trying to trick them only works the first, second, maybe third time. Then they grow wise to it and don’t fall for it anymore.

Okay, so right now I having no problem giving him baytril. But for the aventi Gi paste a lot of difficulty giving it him. He will do anything to avoid the paste, I even got bite by him today. I was thinking of using 1ml syringe to put the paste in, but the syringe is to small for the paste to go in. Is there a way to give him the paste?

Is he doing OK without the paste? If he’s eating OK and the Baytril isn’t messing up his gut flora, then the GI paste may not be necessary. I’ve personally never had to use a probiotic alongside an antibiotic.

I guess he is eating okay, he won’t eat after I give him medication, but he does eat after an 3 hours. He use to be so exited to eat us lettuce, now he’s not as excited when I go feed him [ he is still very excited when I give him pellets] I have to put the lettuce in front of him and that’s when he would eat it. One of the reply’s said it just may be the side effects.

Yes, this sounds very normal with Baytril. I guess I just wouldn’t be overly concerned as long as he’s still eating hay and pellets. Mine had similar reactions… I never had to use a probiotic.
