        Hi guys,

so basically my rabbit chatters loudly whenever i brush him? I just noticed this from today. it’s not the regular chittering ive heard when petting my rabbits, it’s literally a vocal chattering noise – like if a person is shivering and their teeth chatter – except way way slower.

is this normal for some rabbits? he is eating and drinking and playing fine – never heard this noise other than when i brushed him earlier. he is kind of a vocal rabbit i guess? because i also have another rabbit and occasionally he humps her and when he does or tries to, i can hear very very soft but noticeable little grunts/ honks. yes both are fixed and bonded and have been for like.. over 2 years now.

not sure if the honking has anything to do with the loud chattering? my other rabbit doesnt do this but she is a female and doesnt hump the male.

oh and to add as an edit – he doesnt like to be brushed or even pet much but he tolerates it. could it be that he’s in pain when i brush him? im very careful and use the hair buster (life saver), or that he seriously detests being brushed?

Apart from the chattering, is his body hunched, ears flattened or eyes wide when you brush him?

Apart from pain, loud chattering may also be indicating fear. I once took an abandoned stray rabbit inside my house to clean and he chattered like crazy while staying hunched in the same spot. He didn’t even run.

If he hates being petted or brushed, then it may really be his way of expressing his discomfort. I’m not 100% sure so let’s see what the others have to say!

Thanks it could be that.. he is a lop eared rabbit, but he is hunched over… he does make attempts to hop away normally – doesnt scurry. and is just fine after and before the whole thing – its just during he freezes up hunched over and chatters.
