oh my word. that is horrible.

“Fear is driving German bunny-owners to hide their pets away in the woods, like Julia, or in their garages, or in cellars.”

why don’t they put them inside? this makes no sense to me. just one more danger to the outdoor buns.

            That is *%*$*$*# SICK!!!

Beka-good point, nothing can happen to them like that when they are in your house…Unfortunately in Europe its common practice to have them outside

This is why I like my pets more than most people!

Not that it makes things any better, but soon killing bunny’s won’t be enough, and they will switch to killing people.

okay i didn’t even read that article (i’ve heard too much bad news about animals to read it right now… have to protect my poor heart)  but i get the gist from reading your replies.  i’m with sage cat… i like my pets better than most people.  and i find i don’t trust people very much if they show no interest or zero compassion to animals.   i also have an extreme prejudice towards people who harm animals and i agree that it’s a sign that they are disturbed on a deep level.  if not kept in check it will escalate.  why can’t every one be just a little bit more like the dahli lama?

                  Wow…Prince of a Thousand Enemies..

                  That’s just horrible.

                  I just-…eeeugh..

I’m sorry, but if someone ever did something like this to my bunnies, and I found out who it was, God help him. I’m not sure I would be able to control myself. Someone might soon find him to be a headless human..

                  No. Seriously.

There’s this guy that I know…broke his bunny’s jaw, and tossed him in the washer to ‘see if he could swim’.

Every time I see that guy…it honestly….it’s all I can do not to just run him over at 80mph.

I know I have a really bad vengeful nature. But….agh. I love my bunnies. I love ALL bunnies. All animals. And to me, I think that people who harm animals should expirience the same pain and suffering they did..

*peeks through fingers* I can’t look, it’s too horrific! >_< All I have to see are the words 'bunny' and 'killer' in the same sentence and that's enough for me!

Binkles, come on girl, let’s lock and load! We’ll form a posse and go find the sickos! *nods*

That’s why I made this cheezburger piccy:

I’m in!! There are a couple animal cruelty people that I happen to have gotten ahold of their names, and I plan, years from now when the public will never be able to attribute it to their actions, to uhm, do to them what they did to that cat, and that dog. BWAHAHAHA I’m serious too!! No telling!!

On a similar note, my sharemate threatened to kill Charlie after Charlie nibbled on some apparently $600 shoes left out in his bunny territory and he said it in such a threatening way, walking towards my bun that I instinctively attacked him. He didn’t hurt Charlie but now I’m facing assault charges. Stupid law! Apparently I’ll be fine cause the attack was provoked.

                                You got to be kidding…

I think, I would go for the run…and move in my own place…You just never know about other peoples reactions…

For the Bunny chewing is natural. He don’t even know he did something wrong. I would definitely be way to worried to would have a sharemate like this…

                                  BTW:

those sickos cutting of the bunnies’ heads then draining their blood, take the blood with them in containers…

                                  Is that a religious thing?

Rabbit blood is used in various medical tests and experiments. Depending on how they’re being sold, a non-sterile half liter goes for just under $100 and some blood goes for nearly $200 per 100ml  A rabbit has roughly 50ml/kg (2 pounds) of weight(thanks google).  It is possible that it is a local medical company whose employees have found a way to keep costs down or has rooked a company into buying it from them.

Oh, and as for not having them inside – not many people realize that rabbits are indoor pets.

we do keep our animals outside more here in Europe compared to America – mostly because, especially in cities, the biggest threat is a fox. As long as you can protect against those, there is very little to harm them outside. Of course, we weren’t taking humans into consideration then…

Also – I expect that it’s less a cult thing, and more one very disturbed individual who’s mere steps away from escalating to people. Hopefully they’ll catch him pretty quickly – but i don’t know why they think it’s google earth that means he’s locating buns – what about the simple explanation of veterinary access to know who has these pets…

at least the police are taking this seriously. i’m glad i have a very enclosed garden (i can leave my bedroom window open pretty safely) and live in london!

oh gosh that is so sad! hopefully the owners will have the sense to bring their poor bunnies indoors! At least the police are taking action which is more than would happen in England. Lets hope they catch whoever or whatever it is and if you hear anymore details keep us posted!

One issue though is that rabbits can have heart attacks just from being frightened.  Yes, they can be scared to death.  That’s why we recommend indoor housing.

sazemoo, i am in the UK and i keep my bunnies indoors, i would imagine the majority of people in america keep their buns outside too just most people on this site are american, lots of people in the uk keep their bunnies indoors and there are more things than foxes to worry about outside, even a cat poking about next to the rabbit hutch could cause the bunny to get scared and like markusdark said this could kill them. Doesnt matter where you are in the world your bun is always safer and happier indoors.

I agree, they are certainly safer indoors. And indeed mine started out as house bunnies for nearly two years. When I got the outside kennel at my new place, they much preferred having their own space, and if i felt they were at all sad I wouldn’t have thought twice about moving them inside again. Maybe it’s because they get the best of both worlds. their own space outside and the run of the garden when i’m there, and my back door always open when i’m in the house. they had me up at 4 this morning actually, so i spent the morning with one of them sleeping under the bed, whilst the other two hopped outside… i just honestly believe mine are happier with their outside life (all my plants are herbs for them to eat when they are out etc), and inside mornings and evenings… maybe i’m being naive though. although i guess some rabbits might prefer outside to in if the set up is right. i’m also lucky in that all my buns are from dog families (mine or who i’ve rescued from) and have no problem with bigger animals around them…
