Hello everyone. I have an almost nine year old senior bun named Hopper. He has been neutered for 6 years, and was moved into my room permanently after living in a hutch. I know it wasn’t ideal, but now he is spoiled and is given free roam in a decently sized bedroom during the day. At night he has to stay in a cage, but it is a large exercise pen. He never had an issue using a litterbox. Recently he has been peeing and pooping right outside the box, in the box, and peeing in random spots around my room. He was moved into my room more than a year ago, so I don’t think he is trying to expand his territory as he was already pretty settled. At one point I could tell he was trying to establish a new pee corner, but I blocked it off. Since then it has been in random, different spots every time. No new family members or pets have been added to the family, nor has the layout of my room dramatically changed. He uses the litterbox some so I know he knows where it is. I have tried cleaning it more often and cleaning it less. He also is peeing on different types of textures, so I don’t think its a texture thing. I had not changed anything that I can think of when this started. He doesn’t seem to be slowing down or acting different compared to normal, so I am inclined to think he is not ill. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Sorry for my long text but I forgot to add that I have also tried keeping him in just the pen in order to decrease space and re-establish one corner, but it didn’t work. He also is somewhat aggressive towards people who invade his space, but he doesn’t spray like territorial markings, just normal pee.

I don’t think it’s unusual for senior rabbits to start peeing in seemingly random places. I know you said he doesn’t seem to be slowing down, but I would suggest having him checked by a vet. It could be arthritis or a urinary problem. If arthritis is the problem, you might try cutting a side out of the litter box so it’s easier for him to get in and out.

Sounds like it could be a uti or a symptom or some other type of pain, since it seemed to happen suddenly and randomly. So I agree with having the vet check him out.
