Rabbit is just sleeping and eating.

I usually see him sleeping like this or lying straight and sleeping, he gets up, gets into the cage eats and sleeps after that. He doesnt like to play with anything, I gave him a bunch of sticks tied up together and tried giving him a small ball for nudging and playing around but he doesnt play with them either. He has recently lost his mate, his mate suddenly had a seizure and I was contacting the vet but no vet was available around and he was unable to breathe and he died.

He has been close to me since then, he comes and sits with me, watches me work or just sleeps on me while I work. I’m kinda worried for him. He’s eating well and his poop seems to be normal as well. He gets excited whenever I come back from outside.

But I’m more worried about the fact that he just eats and sleep or just roams around my room a bit and goes back and lays down flat.

Should i be worried? I dont want to loose him too.

I will be taking him to a vet next month as I found a rabbit savvy vet in my city.

Bunnies that lose their bondmate can often times become depressed. But the fact that he’s eating and pooping normally is a good sign. Would you be able to get him another friend? Do you have a shelter near you that would let you speed date?

if that’s not an option, just normal solo bun behavior is pretty much eat and sleep. Once they’re in their “adult” years they tend to mellow out. They’re not as playful and tend to just sleep and eat and hangout with the hoomins. Some like to play with things, but most just enjoy your company

I agree that he could be depressed from losing his mate. He does look so sad in those pictures. 🙁 In the meantime he might benefit from a stuffy to cuddle up to, as well as extra cuddles from you.

Do you know what his mate died of? Also wondering if you are in an RHDV outbreak area, because RHDV causes sudden death and is contagious.

I didnt hear anything about it in my country yet actually. I was working and I suddenly saw him laying flat and it looked strange as he never did that before, I petted his head lightly, as they usually become happy with that, but he started to behave in a paranormal way.

I picked him up and his head was almost touching his spine and he kept acting funny.. I have seen this before when I rescued a pigeon so I kind of got a feeling that he wont live much longer.. after 5 or 10 minutes he got a seizure and he was unable to breathe then.. I felt so helpless seeing him going through so much pain and unable to help him

I tried contacting a shelter but they didnt respond, the thing is most of the shelters just rescue cats, dogs and other similar animals which isnt exotic.

He got closer to me now, sometimes he just keeps running away from me as if he has seen a ghost, I just give him some time and he becomes normal.

Like when I get off my bed, he will follow wherever I’ll go until I pick him up and sit somewhere and pet him and he would sleep on me. I’m just too scared of taking him to a vet as well who claims that they are rabbit savvy because most of them are only good with cats and dogs, earlier when I took one of my rescued pigeons to a doctor who said they check birds too, he gave me a medicine that wasnt even meant for birds, but luckily I’ve found a vet who actually is rabbit savvy and I’ll be taking him to get checked next month.

And I just had one more question, do they make mouth movements when they’re sleeping? Because I noticed that he chewed a lot of times when he was sleeping in my arms today. I know about the eating dreams they get but I’m just curious, is it the same?

It sounds like he is very close to you, so it’s good that you can comfort him. <3

If he is eating and pooping normally, then I would just keep an eye on him for now. It is normal for him to be a bit “quieter” than normal while he mourns the loss of his friend. But keep an eye out for signs of pain, such as loud tooth grinding, sitting hunched, squinting, lethargy, or loss of appetite.

My bunnies do make some funny mouth movements when they are dreaming. Sometimes it looks like they are eating something yummy and chewing, other times it looks like they are sniffing something or grooming (their cheeks will get twitchy). As long as it is harsh-sounding tooth grinding (which is a sign of pain), then it’s nothing to worry about.

I’ve started to take him to the terrace in the evening, after my shift is over so that he can roam around in fresh air.. I’m just hoping for him to get fine soon ♡
