I have just had my bunnies out for floor time and when they were coming in to their room one ran back as I was closing the door and got his head stuck – he is still running about and can move it both wasy, and also eating but looks a little shaken. Is there any checks I can do to make sure he is ok? I am really worried and the vets is closed – is it worth taking him to the emergency vet if he is mobile and acting normal even though a bit shaken?

        Please help!

As in you closed the door on his head? I dont mean to make it sound worse than it might be, but I dont understand what you mean by ‘he got his head stuck in the door’.

Is your bunny eating, drinking, and toileting? I would be worried about his teeth since he is otherwise acting normal

Yes, and no –  the rabbits came in and as I was closing the door he ran back just as it closed – so essentially yet i did close it on his head – he is acting like normal now but just a bit scared and shaken. I feel awful and just wanted to ask if there was any checks for neck injuries etc. there is no open wounds and he can move it sideways and up and down (eg to drink water and lean to peer over things)  thank you for taking the time to reply – i will take him to the vets tomorrow for a check up and perhaps anti inflammatory, metacam etc.

            Thanks

Worried about his teeth because damage to the face can also mean damage to the teeth. They could be chipped, couldve cut his cheeks or tongue, ect. You would be able to tell if it effected his teeth by how he is eating and drinking The vet would be able to check as well

Thanks for replying again! it was more his neck that was trapped in the door as opposed to him banging his face or teeth etc, but he has been drinking and chewing hay and i can hear his teeth chomping it. I havent looked myself yet as I dont want to distress him by taking him out his cage but will check first thing and give the vet a call.

                  Thank you for your help!

I would just keep an eye out in the next few weeks for any changes in behaviour. It’s possible the worst is that he just might be a bit sore with some slight bruising. But keep an eye just in case the injury gets worse with a bit of time.

Not to scare you, but once I closed a heavy sliding door right on my cat’s stomach (she ran out towards the door very suddenly), she made a sharp “meow” at the time but seemed completely fine otherwise. A week or two later she ended up with a severe digestive infection (which at her age also caused her to get an upper respiratory infection as well), it may have happened anyway but I suspect it was the door closing on her that may have started the process. I’m not saying that’s going happen, because I highly doubt he’s injured if he seems ok Just keep an eye out for changes in behaviour over the next week or two

Thanks, a friend told me her daughter did the same and the rabbit had a fit 30 mins later and died because its neck was broken, so i was in severe panic mode earlier.

I will call the Vet first thing and take him in for a check up – Thank you for responding!

Ah, ok. I agree with Azerane. I would watch for a bit and see if your bun seems off. Look for small things like head tilts, not being able to walk straight, ect. Chances are, your bun is alright
