        Hi

I got my boy neutered 5 days ago and it’s healing well, I think it’s looking fine, like 2 empty bags and there’s some scabs.

He’s been eating well and everything the whole time and using the litterbox but sometimes i’ll notice a very strong, skunky odor from where he’s been.

Earlier he had been sleeping in the transport cage and I went to check on him, stuck my head into the transport cage and it STANK really strongly and I noticed it yesterday when he went past me when I was lying on the floor with him as well. I cleaned his whole playpen-area yesterday evening in case he’d been spraying on the rug and that’s where the smell came from. I noticed too it smells the same as some of his poop did before I neutered him!

I dont think he smells all the time but im not sure. Earlier I smelled his groin area and thats where the it comes from. What is this?Should I be concerned?

Right after neutering buns go through some crazy hormonal fluctuations and they can be VERY STINKY, but don’t worry, it should alls start calming down over the next few weeks. It can come from their scent glands, as well as poops and urine, ranging from a oniony to skunky smell. Once he’s healed up completely, you can take a look at his scent glands to make sure they don’t need cleaning, but I’m guessing you won’t need to.

              Okay, thanks!

I have anothr question too. He’s changed a little after neutering. He’s chewing on EVERYTHING which he hasn’t done before and he seems more tired but when he’s not tired he chews things. And he’s gotten scared a few times and I don’t know why. We have been cleaning and changing his playpen a few times in the recent days so maybe its just that but I dont know.

Could he be stressed still from after the neutering? And how can I help him if he is? 🙁

I think that all sounds related to both hormonal changes as well as the actual neuter.

Post-neuter craze! Many bunnies are hormonal after their neuter and, for some, this means being extra “naughty”.
