Rabbit fell over

 I was playing with my bun today and he was doing fine the all the sudden he fell over to his side he was limp for 20 seconds and it was so scary i read about head tilt but his head is not tilted he is a little more than two months. He is fine now but it scaired me to death I am finding a rabbit vet but does anyone know what it could be he has one ear up and one down but I got him like that! I made sure he is not hot or anything too.

My impression, like the others, is that it was a bunny flop.

As for the ears, lots of rabbits have one ear down and one up. It just means they have some lop ancestry.

Hehe don’t worry it happens to us all!   When we got our first bunny and only had a few books on rabbits (that never mentioned a flop!) and when Mickey flopped for the first time I was like “oh my gosh I just got him!” I thought he had died!  He got up and looked at me like I was silly   After seeing him do it all the time I figured it was normal (this was pre binky bunny)
And yup, just means he’s part lop!  We have a foster rabbit that is part lop.  When she’s excited or listening really closely, both of her ears will go up.  And last week she was laying down and both ears were almost down, kind of a helicopter ears.

It’s okay – no one is prepared for the “dead bunny flop”, even though it’s a sign of a really relaxed and contented bunny!  Same thing with binkies, which are bunny happy dances – people always think their bun is having some kind fo seizure.

Even tho I found out from BB what a bunny flop is b4 I ever saw one..  The first time Cotton did his I still ran over to see that he was still breathing.  lol.   I have gotten kind of used to  it now.

When I brought Peeka home for the 1st time & took her out of the transport box & put her back in her own cage she immediately did the flop. Scared the crap out of me, as she had only been in her new home for 10 seconds I really thought she had a heart attack, thinking you can’t possibly be that relaxed that fast. It must have been the smell of other bunnies that put her at ease so quick. Although when I picked her up earlier that day, she was being a pain with her old mommy trying to get her out of her cage to put in the transport box. I said, “let me try” & reached in & hauled her out in one quick motion, scooped her right up to my neck in the big cuddle pose & told her it was OK you’ll be fine. The lady started crying because Peeka didn’t try to squirm away. She said that nobody has ever been able to cuddle her like that. So maybe it’s me. The 1st time I ever met a bunny, the little girl asked if I wanted to hold her & passed her over. She started to explain that I could only hold her for a minute because bunnies can have heart attacks so easily. The bunny snuggled up & started licking my neck. The little girl said, “OH, never mind she likes you a lot.” Maybe I’m part bunny. *checks ears in mirror* It’s a month later now & i’m still surprised thinking about her 1st flop here.
And yes, that’s the I’m feeling so safe I think I’ll just fall over pose. LOL

I love the title of this post. That’s exactly how it looks with two of my bunnies. One actually kind of ‘twists’ into his flop and the other just goes over like he was shot and his little back legs stretch out stiff…lolz. I’ve had my bunnies for almost two years now and I STILL freak out a bit when they do this.
Glad to hear this was all it was at any rate.

I think the best flop I’ve ever seen was of Jersey (JerseyGirl’s rabbit). Particularly in the tub next to her new husbun. Jack’s are spiffy good too I might add! I wish mine would do it. Nova is kind of starting to, but I have to sneak in and as soon as she notices me she jumps up. Hubble is a box rabbit. He likes to loaf with his front paws crossed in his box o’fun’n’hay.

When I first got my first bunny, Spockie, and he was only home about 2 days, he flopped. I was alone with him, and I immediately called the vet. The staff got a Med. Assistant who was their bunny expert and I told her what happened.
She said “I’m not absolutely certain, but I think he’s just being cute.”
She told me to watch for any other signs of problems, but otherwise he was fine.

And yes, he was just being cute.

Bunny flops are the next best thing to binkies. Ours does the “Drama Queen”–loooooooong stretch out, pause and then wham! Head and shoulder hits the ground with the rest of the body slowly following. If he was a girl bunny, I’d be inclined to get him a small “fainting sofa”. Maybe he needs one anyway!

I fed all rabbits and guinea pigs this evening, and I’m looking at Mufasa and of course he looks like a dead bun. Eyes closed light belly showing not moving.

I remember the first few times he did this; even though he was a baby. I thought he was dead. He also does a very dramatic bunny flop.

Mimzy can sleep like the dead. Scares the crud out of me. I came up to him once when he wasn’t moving at all and my voice came out in a squeak, “Mimzy??” Poor thing, I scared him terribly and now I think he doesn’t dare close both eyes around me.

Sort of like fainting goats   you laugh they faint.  But with rabbits they relax they fall over.  lol
