I was petting my bunny cinnimon today and she felt hotter than normal. I only petted her face because she doesn’t let people pet her anywhere else so I don’t know if it is her whole body. I petted my other bunny Ollie to se if there was a difference there was but their coat type is a bit different and they never really feel the same. Is something wrong is she ok? She is eating, drinking and pooping still. She isn’t the super active but has never been since her spay. She hops around though and is still curious. Please help I am worried about her.

Simply feeling hot doesn’t necessarily mean anything. How is the temperature in the house? Has it been warmer than normal?

No it hasn’t been warmer than normal. It is getting colder outside though.

Could she have just been running around and you missed it?

How long ago was her spay?

No, I always watch them because they cause too much trouble. She rarely ever runs around maybe 2 for a few seconds every month, she used to go on and on running around every day. Her spay was around 4 months ago I would guess, sorry I can’t remember exactly when.

Was it her ears that were hot? Some rabbits will have warmer ears at times they are more relaxed. See here for information re: warm weather/heat stroke concerns so you are alert to signs and what to do: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Hot_weather_concerns

Young rabbits tend to be more energetic– all that baby energy. Has there been a change in flooring? Rabbits are less likely to run around on slippy floors. Additionally, they can just get into a “routine”– sleeping most of the day and being more energetic early morning and late evening.

As all the others have already said, hot ears dont mean much, if anything. Very cold ears in a lethargic bun that refuses to eat can be an indication of hypothermia though. It’s good to acquaint yourself with how your bun’s ears feel so you get a sense of what is normal for her and how the ear temp varies over they day and with her activity level.

Its good to have a quick-read (10 secs) rectal thermometer with a flexible tip in the rabbit first aid box. Its surprisingly easy to take a bun’s temp. Here’s a very good instruction HowCast video: https://youtu.be/YZd10Hk0maA

I dont think you need to take her temp now, but its good to know how to. Its always good to be prepared!

It was her whole face, she loves being petted anywhere on her face, but the rest of her body, she will kill you if you touch it… unless you are a little kid because I trained her very well with them. She only 2 turned to late July, early august, would it be the reason for her energy level? The only floor change was a few months ago and it changed from slippery to not slippery. Her energy is the same all day long.

I dont think Ive ever noticed the temp on my buns’ faces, but their tongues tend to be very warm when they lick ones’ hands. A fever in a rabbit would most likely make the bun less interested in food though, so its of course great that she is eating and pooping.

At 2 years, a bun tends to become “mature” in the sense that they rest more and binky around less. Fall will also have an impact on a bun’s activity level. It’s mainly about the days getting shorter, since indoors temps tend to not vary that much. Darkness stimulates the release of sleep hormone (melatonin), in buns as well as hooms.

Okay. So it isn’t a problem? Also, my room normally has its lights off because I don’t like light, is that okay for them?

It doesn’t sound concerning to me.

As for light – natural light is fine during the day. I have found that bunnies often feel more comfortable with a “night light” for when it gets dark outside in the evening. This is especially true in the winter when it gets dark early.
