Ok well, I still havent gotten my rabbit yet, the day we were supposed to my sister broke her arm. She’s fine, but is going to be a cast for a while. The rabbit I am getting is a ‘netherland dwarf’ I think she is mixed with something else as well because she looks bigger then a netherland dwarf….opps, anyway She is only 6 months old. Like what should a I feed. Does she get unlimited amounts of hay? or do i limit that? I have done tons of research, but i still feel like i dont know anything…. Can you give me some tips, on what I should do to become a good first-time, bunny owner? please and thanks in advance to everyone that reads and answers!

if she’s six months already, i would skip the baby bunny diet and move right on to timothy-based. that means unlmited timothy hay (experiment with how much she will eat in the course of a day, then give her even more than that), timothy-based pellets with no junk food/extras. you can check the diet info page for the specifics on nutritional requirements (i can never remember off the top of my head). start introducing veggies slowly, or find out of she is already getting veggies and what kinds she’s been eating. does this answer your questions, or what else are you wondering about?

You might want to have a small, healthy treat handy for training her to do little things. I’m thinking a raisin reward. Some folks use a treat to get a bunny to return to their house for bedtime, putting the treat inside the house so the bunny hops right in expecting a bedtime snack.

Beka, can you think of any others? Spockie went totally wild for bananas, so an 1/8″ slice might be a sweet treat also. Papaya tablets are good for them and also some consider those a treat – only one or two a day at the most.

Kaitlyn, make sure you find out what she is eating now also. Or even get some of that feed. It may not be the best feed but if you are transistioning her onto a better feed, you’ll need to mix the old and new so she doesn’t get any digestive upsets. And yes, always unlimited hay!

let her try the timothey hay and see it she eats it and set some out were she know where it is I would say give her around 1/8 a cup a pellets to get her started. noothing dramatic of real complex to start out.
