In the beginning Mr. Kenny Bunny would come out of from under the table whenever my dad went into the kitchen to beg for food. Then he started popping out from nowhere when my dad came in( Literally, we would be staring waiting for him to come then turn away and then we look again, and his there he is! He is a magic rabbit. really.) Then he made a habit of it, and so my dad started to always give him dinner of veggies and one or two grapes. For lunch it would be carrots. One time, on ice cream night, Mr. Kenny Bunny waited patiently for us all to get ice cream. He just waited besides his dinner plate which is right next to the kitchen.(he waited like 10 minutes) Yup, he may not be able to get ice cream but he thought grapes were just fine. Then yesterday, when my dad came into the kitchen Mr. Kenny bunny came up to him and scratched at his feet apparently demanding food. Is that a bold rabbit or what??? What will he do next?? Do your rabbits do that???

Yes, bunnies are smart and creatures of habit. They learn quickly when there’s someone who likes them and is going to give them food treats. My bunny looks for my Dad in the morning to get her pellets and my mother scuffs her slippers as a signal for Sammy to come get a treat.

What you need to be careful of for Mr. Kenny Bunny is what he gets as regular meals and what are treats. You want to be sure he’s getting his unlimited hay and water all day, his pellets (no more than 1/4 cup a day) and his assorted greens. Carrots, grapes and other fruits are actually like cookies or dessert. They need to be in very small quantities especially if given often throughout the day. Raisins or craisins are perfect for that reason. A grape is still a treat if cut in half, so your Dad could give a half a grape once, then the other half with dinner later. He loves getting food from your Dad – just ration it out. Your Dad can treat him with healthy food as much as the sweets, like a cluster of Kale or some mint or parsley.

My bunnies are also very demanding for treats. Bindi will even beg for treats even from people he’s never met. I always say, ” the boogeyman could go in the rabbit room and Bindi wouldn’t care, he would still want a treat!”
