hey all, i recently laid down a large amount of ant bait in my kitchen (where my bunnies are not allowed to go). One my rabbits managed to get through my many blockades into the kitchen, and by the time i realised, the ant bait was gone, i have no doubt he ate it, theres someon his face. The active ingredient is borax, which i have had heaps of people tell me thats its fine, and i dont need to take him to the vet, but i am worried about how much of it he ate, and whether it can kill him. i cant take him to the vet for another 2 hours <g class="gr_ gr_2309 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="2309" data-gr-id="2309">because</g> my mom <g class="gr_ gr_2055 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="2055" data-gr-id="2055">isnt</g> home, but <g class="gr_ gr_2143 gr-alert gr_tiny gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="2143" data-gr-id="2143">i</g> definitely will as soon as she gets here. If it’s borax, it’s “somewhat safe” according to this old thread: https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/aft/117356/Default.aspx

Please read it, Jerseygirl lists signs of poisoning in her reply (second post in the thread).

Fingers crossed your bun will be ok!

Signs of boric acid and borax poisoning usually manifest within a couple of hours following ingestion. So if you’re not seeing any signs (salivation/foaming at the mouth, tremors, seizures, loss of appetite, etc.) by now, then it probably did not affect him.

I looked it up and borax is classified as being low in acute toxicity. For rats, LD50 is 4550 mg/kg. So a rat would have to ingest A LOT.
