  Hi all,
  I just made an account to ask this question, hoping to get some clarity.
  I’ve had my rabbit, Thumper, for her entire life – about 3 1/2 years now. She is spayed and has always been loving and completely healthy.
  However, last night my husband and I went to her room to feed her, and she opened her mouth at my husband a few times, but not me. I just attributed it to her having a much stronger bond with me, and maybe she was having a moody day.
  Fast forward to this morning, my husband and I went to spend time with her in her room and she almost immediately began to thump, growl, and act skittish. I went to her and she allowed me to pet her, and even let me hold her without any aggression, but I cannot calm her down completely.
  This is VERY strange behavior for her, as she’s never been one to act skittish very often, especially this long.
  After calming her down didn’t work, we decided to leave her be and see if she would calm down on her own. It’s been about 10 minutes and shes still periodically thumping.
  I don’t know if she’s having an off day, or if it’s something more serious. Any advice or comments are appreciated.

  It almost sounds as if she’s had a bit of a scare and is still on high alert. Has there been an unusual noise in house/apt, any work being done nearby? Could you have had a mouse make its way indoors?
  Any rearranging of furniture at home?
  
  Have either of you been around animals she’s not used to?

  By this, do you mean was bitey toward him? Or actually fully opening mouth into air? If the latter, could she have something stuck in her throat or mouth?
  One of our forum leaders had her bunny act odd one time after eating willow twigs. He was pawing at his mouth. It turned out he had manages to get a twig stuck across the back of his mouth wedged behind his teeth!

  Maybe your husband had been around another animal? They do seem to have keen senses. I think mine smelt a snake shedding skin outside the front door as I had a hard time finding her when I came home. She was in her hidey house…she only uses them for a short time normally.

  Change your clothes, wash your hands and then go back in. If she acts normally then she was probably frightened by a certain smell. Because rabbits don’t have good eyesight and recognise everyone by their smell, maybe she smelt another animal and thought it was a predator AMD then freaked out
