do i pick up all the poop and put them in the litter box so none are on my carpet or in their cage? or will they always leave poop? the poop on my carpet is less and less but there are still some. better poop than pee i guess

just wanted to double check before i go running around with a tissue lol!

If it’s lessening it’s probably territorial poops on the carpets. Putting in the box will help them define where it all should go. Do you have a litter box in the cage?

yes each one of them have a litter box in their cage. when i let them out i leave both cages open and they go in and out of them. they either go in and pee or they hold their pee while they are out bc they rarely pee on the carpet. for the few weeks that charlie was an only bun he would only have 1 or 2 little poops on the carpet. when i got jack i think they had a competition lol. but now its getting less and less. will they always have poop in their cage or will they someday make most of them in the litter box? i do notice that they will pee in each others cages out of the litter box ugh! their cages are in my dining room and not very far at all from where they play. i dont think far enough to put boxes outside of the cage. also im not expecting much until they are neutered but just getting ahead of myself i guess, so i know what to do and expect. thanks!

It should improve some. Some will always leave some poop outside of the box but continuing to put it all back in the box and limiting their space + neutering should all help. The territorial (or poop wars maybe) sound as if it’s resolving itself. They may be a little off with their habits during bonding to but hopefully you see improvements. Age, hormones and territoriality are all at play here – fun times!

Yep, put it all in the box. My bun often drags poo out of his litter box because it sticks to the bottom of his feet when he jumps out. I know he’s not actually pooing in his cage, he doesn’t mean to make a mess, but i put those back too just so he doesn’t get any ideas that poo laying around his cage is ok 😉

I do this too. My buns kick poo out sometimes when they hop in and out of the box, so once or twice a day I go in the pen and toss all the poops back in the box. (I don’t even use a tissue anymore since they are dry. Just pop them up with my fingers… and then wash my hands after.)
