hi, I had no idea what to call this so I just called it that!!

So I have a few questions for cage setup

        1. What should I use as litter
        2. what is best to line the ex-pen floor with fleece, towels or the kid’s puzzle playmats (the ones you connect together)
        3. What wood is safe for rabbits I want to make a pen-like this
        4. what cage accessories (I don’t know what to call them I mean tunnels etc) are safe

        from cooper the pooper

        Thank you for your help!!

Hi @RabbitLover908 there are actually many different options to a lot of your questions so I’ll just tell you what I do, but others may do something else and it’s all still good!

          1. I use layer of Yesterdays news (paper based litter) and top with hay.
          2. Dorian is pretty much 100% free roam, so no xpen. He does have his own room (spare bathroom) with some mats in it. Towels he shreds, so those I do not recommend. Though if your bunny doesn’t then they are an easy option. I have a seagrass mat, since I figured he would be safe chewing it… it is the one rug he doesn’t chew 😀  I also have some other low pile mat, but he shreds it so I will replace when I can. Puzzle mats are supposed to be great, but make sure they can’t get at the edges and start gnawing them. He has fleece blankets for napping on.
          3. This one is harder, pine if kiln dried is safe from what I have read. You want to not paint or varnish. Willow, apple and some other woods are too, but may be harder to find as boards.
          4. I use cat tunnels, I have a cute cardboard cottage from binky bunny. I would start out getting stuff from a site that specializes in rabbits as they will have done some of the research for you. I did a box of the month for a while as I wasn’t sure what Dorian would like and it was a good way to get some toys and samples. That said most bunnies are happy with things you can easily make yourself!

              2. what are some good rabbit websites?
              3. what are the most important things to get?
              4. is there anything really important to learn?
              5. What Toys?
              6. And what companies are good?

While it is not 100% everything (there’s no such thing as a complete information guide), the RABBIT INFO section of this website covers all the major categories and points necessary to know when considering having a pet rabbit. I recommend taking time to go over through it page by page, as it is all important to keep in mind and know when deciding if you want to adopt a rabbit. It is a lot of information, but none of it is “optional” generally speaking.

just a quick question 1/2 to do with bunnies does anyone here have a website where they write down everything about rabbits for the public and theirselves i do it so i always have it and to teach other people more 🙂

Arguably the main purpose of Binkybunny.com is for rabbit owners to write about their experiences, contribute, and ask questions for the public and themselves in order to learn and help others.

In my opinion, what makes Binkybunny more helpful and welcoming can be that it’s a community mostly of people who have had rabbits for years, and reading about their experiences and opinions may be much more helpful than a website you may find where it’s not really clear how the website’s publisher or author may have gotten the information or what reasoning they have for recommending it.

I know you’ve mentioned not having rabbit experience, so while it’s great to want to teach people, now is the best time to simply be curious and learn for yourself.

@RabbitLover908 – sorry I am in US, so not sure about where to find wood in UK. I would try a lumber yard or larger hardware store, google might help. Pine should be pretty readily available.

For litter I’m going to be using horse stall pellets which is like $8 CAD for 40lbs. Super cheap. You can make diy toys with cardboard or paper lunch bags and treats. People on here also use baby toys like hard plastic stacking cups and plastic baby keys (not the teething ones). You can layer things for flooring like memory foam bath mats with are good for their feet and are absorbent. You can also use a plastic shower curtain or a tarp under the fleece to protect against spills and pee. Hope this helps. 🙂
