So I am for sure getting a friend for thumper, i’m planning on going bunny speed dating soon. I have two questions:

        1) I’m going away to Mexico for 8 days (April 16th-23rd), my mom is going to feed and water thumper so that’s not an issue, should I get another bunny now or wait until after? The pros are that thumper won’t be so lonely without me if they have a quick bond but what if they aren’t fully bonded by then?  Urgh!

        2) I’m planning on redoing thumpers condo, should I wait until after i get the new bunny or before?

        Thanks guys

I would wait until you have the time to go through the bonding process. Because though everything could go smoothly, even with “speed dating” there is no real guarantee that it will be an instant bond when back at the house. (as it took months for Jack and Vivian to bond)

I’d  hate for your bunnies to take longer to bond, and then you have to leave —which would then create more work for your mom to take care of two separate pens/cages.

Also, you could get them to a point where they are almost there, yet you wouldn’t want to keep them separated nor keep them together 24/7 without supervision, so you could find yourself in a difficult situation when you return — starting over possibly.

I wouldn’t worry about your bunny being alone for just a week.

Edited to add:  I forgot to answer your other question.  I would definitely wait to redo the condo until you are ready to bond.  That may help prevent your bunny from getting too territorial when “home” is a new place to both your bunny and the new friend.

Thankyou BinkyBunny! I was leaning towards waiting but I wanted to see what other people thought too. Now my problem is what am I going to do without her for a week!

After-so wait until after. A) You will not want to leave your new bundle of joy and enjoy the beach and B) what if they get out while mom is looking after them and they fight? Or anything…really so much better when you are there to go through the process with them. My vote is wait Plus then you have something to look forward to when you return from your trip to cooler spring temps at home

I know how you feel about leaving-I am going on my first trip without my dog and only, I think my third without my buns, in two weeks for two weeks…OMG.

What I found worked in the past for me is bringing LOTS of pictures and video (just loaded on my camera I use there) so when I miss them I can play a video or look at pictures of them. I know, sounds goofy, but so works!!

Two weeks without animals!! Jeez now that would be hard!
Thumper is my first pet that is strictly mine and I’m the only one that knows exactly what she likes/doesn’t like and how to do everything so she’s kinda like my baby, 8 days without her will be so hard
LOL! I already have so many pictures of her on my camera but I’ll be taking much more so I won’t be too bun-sick

Yay I’m already looking forward to Thumper having a friend My fingers are crossed for an easyish bond!

I’m preparing myself I’ve read the bonding forum up and down and talked to shelters about everything. This all depends on how “speed-dating” goes though, it is up to the princess if anyone meets her qualifications

Oh, I mean when you come back from your trip! You may or may not get some mad rabbitude! I was gone for 4 days once and.. man, my dad said “Koucha jumped the baby gate!” Which she has never done when I was at home. And she also wouldn’t let me pet her when I got home. She stomped at me several times and refused her dinner greens. She was over it in a day!
