I’m in the process of building a NIC condo and could use a little help on a few things

First, I made sure the zip ties face out but I’m still concerned about the sharpness. Oreo is very inquisitive and loves to chew so I’m worried that she’ll still try to chew them when she’s running around outside the cage and hurt herself. Has anyone had any issues with this? Is there something I could cover the ties with?

I’m working on building levels and am not sure if I should include ramps or not.  Do you have any suggestions of what to build ramps out of or what to use as traction if I don’t build ramps?

I’d love to know what has worked for others!

I didn’t bother with ramps, as my buns all like to jump up onto things anyway. Saves space in the condo

The zip ties I just cut off really s hort, and any sharp corners I file down a bit so they are rounder. I haven’t had any of the 3 chew at them yet, even though Moose, my boy, likes to chew on little plastic things that he shouldn’t….

with mine we didn’t put ramps in but I put a shelf in there for my male bun to hop on to get away from the other one. It’s about a foot up and connected with two panals with zip ties then a piece of plywood on top so it’s smooth and it gives him something to chew/dig on. He loves it. He sleeps up there a lot.

For the zip ties, i havn’t had any problems with them hurting themselves, but then I always turn them in also so that the raw end is flush with the panal that it’s on. You can always cut them short like Moneybun said and round the corners (I did that with the door one cause Meg kept chewing on them).

I think I will file down the zip ties just in case, thanks for that tip Monkeybun.

I’m thinking about a ramp, although Oreo loves to jump, because there is one section of the 3rd level of the cage where if she really wanted too, she could try to jump from the 3rd level down to the floor. So far she’s tip toed up to that edge and just about given me a heart attack thinking she would try to jump but she didn’t. I may build a ramp over that section just to ease my own mind

Is is safe for her to chew on the dowels? I’m not sure what kind of wood it is, I think plywood and it appears to be untreated. Only a few minutes in her new home and she’s already started a project to destroy a dowel

I believe dowels are okay to chew on.. I have dowels in my rabbit’s condo. She will on occasion, chew on it.. but not much.

If the dowels are OK to chew on or not depends on what type of wood they are. Plywood is extremely unlikely for dowels. They are mostly made out harmless hard woods, so it’s probably OK.

Porky likes having ramps. he runs from his 3rd level down to his 1st level turns around and heads back up at lightening speed sometimes. The ramps may seem to take up floor space on the levels, but they give the bunny a nice long path to hop. The top layer of Poky’s ramps are carpeting for traction.

You can get the tails of the cable ties/zip ties much shorter with wire cutters than with scissors.

Another option, with the bunny out of the space, take a lighter and heat the sharp end a bit so you can flatten it.

Of course, fire safety is concern Numero Uno!!!!!!
