Questions about adopting A bunny

Hello everyone, a few weeks ago when school ended I was asked to take the class bunny Hopper home. I felt bad so I decided that I would. Now that I’ve had him I’ve grown to love her so much. I don’t want to give her back. I feel so bad about having her go back to just sit in a cage. I setup my house so that she can be out of her cage playing and running and I can tell she’s having the time of her life she has changed so much since the first day she got here. She’s a little goofy and has such a funny personality. I never realized you can have a relationship. Sounds kinda stupid but I never knew.

Anyway, since I do have to give her back. I was wondering if someone can point me in the right direction? Possibly of an adoption shelter where I can get a young bunny who needs a home. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Aw, that is so sweet! Yes it is amazing how interactive and wonderful rabbits can be as pets. They are every bit as affectionate and interesting as dogs and cats in my opinion, if given the chance!

If you are in the US, the house rabbit society (rabbit.org) is a great network for adopting rabbits in need. They have chapters around the country that you can look up. I got my bun from an east coast chapter of HRS and they were so helpful and welcoming. It is especially nice to be able to adopt adult rabbits who have already been spayed/neutered and have developed their adult personalities. If you are in another country perhaps other members can recommend resources?

And I’m glad you have developed a good bond with your current rabbit! Even if you do have to give her back, perhaps you can help improve her environment and educate others while she is at the school so she can live the best possible life

Since the class animal should serve to educate the class about something… I’d start by educating the principal and the main teacher (homeroom teacher? Sorry, not familiar with the terms, here stuff is different!). Make a nice document with the requirements for the bun (big enclosure, run space, feeding) and their reasons I’m sure that they’ll appreciate your effort and try to make things better for Hopper!

Thank you for the information. This is my daughters pre-k class bunny. Her teacher definitely is great with the bunny and she had everything for her….hay, bedding, food treats. The class is actually so good with her they did have a couple of informational classes If that’s what you call them. I’m just going to miss her. I’m going to check out the website you gave me hopefully I’ll be back on here with a new bunny.
