        Hi all,

I have a 7 month Holland Lop, and she was spayed about 3 weeks ago. After she was cleared by vet to return to normal activity, she had a-lot of spunk in her and was more energetic and adventurous then usual. Although, the past 2 days her behaviour/activity has winded down. She dose not seem to want to run around as much, especially when people are around.

I have been worrying about her, because this is very unlike her.

Otherwise she is completely normal (eating, drinking…etc)

I know that this could all be hormonal as a result of her spay, but I am still unsure.

Dose anyone have any idea is this is normal behaviour/activity after spay?

Hmm… is something maybe hurting her? I think that eating, drinking, and pooping normally is a good sign though! Keep watching to make sure these habits are normal. Sorry I couldn’t provide much info. :c Hope she’s back to her energetic-self soon!

              Thank you for your input.

Yes, I am glad she is still eating, drinking, and pooping well.

I don’t think it has anything to do with her being hurt only because when she dose decided to roam around she acts totally normal (doesn’t act like anything is bothering her).

It is just the fact that she is not as eager to come out of her cage, and roam around as often.

I am hoping it is just her adjusting to the hormone changes. If it continues I will bring her to the vet.

              Thanks!

I think she is likely adjusting to her new hormone balance. There can be fluctuations for 4-6 weeks. Maybe she was also very excited to explore after being cooped up, but then has calmed down a bit now that she has more exercise time again?

As long as she is eating and drinking, peeing and pooping, I’d not worry to much. Rabbit behavior is to a great extent dependant on hormones -not exclusively sex hormones. A spay is a radical intervention hormone-wise, and it takes time for the rabbit to regain hormonal balance. This process is more marked in girl buns than in boys. It can take 6 months to a year for a girl, whereas boy rabbits rarely need more than 8 weeks max to settle down.

It’s great that you are vigilant.
