Just to confirm…. is it OK to give buns the inside part once the outer GREEN leaves are gone?  I  belive it is, but just wanted to confirm.

Some rabbits really enjoy the core too. I 1/4 it length ways and give it to them one all the leaves are used.

Welcome. If you’re here I’m guessing you’re a “bunaholic” too.

Yes, you can feed all of the romaine… my guys LOVE the core!

This works out great b/c we (the humans) love romaine salads!  So rather than throwing out the core, which WE obviously do not eat… we can give it to the buns as a little snack!

You cut off the hard thing at the end, though? Or do they eat that?

I’m so discouraged, because I would LOVE to use up all my Romaine heads and Sammy just leaves white parts in the bowl.
Maybe I’ll try the core intact a bit so she can gnaw on it.

She is very good about hay, though, so I can’t complain. She snarfed most of her hay feeder of fresh hay all during the night.

Jersey girl – Yup – Bunaholic here.

I feel  sad for people who don’ t realize how funny, sociable, entertaining and SMART buns are. especialy when they’re House Rabbits. like mine have always been.  I wish  I could post a pic of my new little guy, Vie! (french for “Life”.  He just turned 1 yr in Jan. A holland lop who’s been bounced around  4 times in his short little life.  Fortunately, a rescue  got him and I adopted him.  Its been  almost a month now.

Felony LOVES the core of any lettuce I give him. He really likes harder/crisper veggies.

Monkey always leaves the harder white bits last… she isn’t a fan of them. Moose doesn’t care, as long as its food lol.

Sammy’s being weird about it. I came home to find she had pushed he litter box a foot away from it’s spot, was sitting in its former corner (did not pee there though) and her bowl looked full from this morning. Then I found a piece of red leaf under the romaine light green pieces and she gobbled that up.
I mean, I searched in her food dish instead of her???? I was getting concerned until I remembered I had given her a healthy piece of carrot with her greens this morning. The little bugger got me worried for nothing.

Clearly finicky about the romaine now. sigh.

Oh, my two LOVE the romaine cores. Jackson grabs his and runs off to hide it so he can gnaw on it all night. I assume it is a good way fro them to wear their teeth too- something a bit more rugged to work on….

I also give then the Dandelion cores, the chicory cores, and the washed cilantro roots as “extra”treats. In fact, I barely throw anything away with them, as long as its washed and ready. The both really like the washed cilantro roots too.

The only thing the buggers have disregarded is the Beautiful arugula bunches they had at the grocery this week. I am hoping that they will love it by the end of the week – that is how long it usually takes to win them over.

Aw! Look at his (Vie) face and big eyes! He still has a babyish look about his face. Who could resist?!

Pam, I just cut of the tough, brown end off and ditch it. The core is fibrous on the outside and softer on the inside. I do chop in half if I think fibrous part has too long strands (like celery) but that’s me being over cautious.
