        Hi everyone!  This week has been soooooo stressful!

        Jay took Chewy to the vet Thursday for her 2 week checkup after her surgery.  I was expecting the worse, because her jaw still felt weird, and i thought that the absess was back already.  The doctor didn’t give us a good prognosis when we were last there.

        GREAT NEWS.  the vet was floored.  Chewy’s jaw had healed wonderfully and there was no sign of the absess!  She said it was a million times better than she thought it was going to be.  SO, if we want her to keep living, we have to keep up with her strict medication regimen of Baytril AND penicillin shots.  Um, that’s $115 a MONTH but we just can’t say no yet.  I am really happy for her and I will be happy even if we get 6 more good months with her.  YAY CHEWY!  she is such a fighter after all she has been through!!!!

        My question is…  do you give your bunnies medicine orally or the “Critical Care”?  How do you get them to swallow?  Chewy will let it all sit in her mouth and then it will leak out when I put her down.  (Jay holds her and I give her the medicine)

        If I am giving my other rabbit medicine, we can usually “bop” her up and down gently and she will eventually swallow.  Chewy doesn’t… any ideas?

          what works for me is to go in the side of the mouth (i have Mike secure the back end so i can have both of my hands free) and i put the syringe behind her teeth. her tongue automatically starts licking and she swallows. does Chewy make a licking motion when you do this that you can see? we do it on the coffee table and i kneel on the ground so my face is about 6 inches from her mouth so i can see what’s going on. do it slowly.

          i’m so glad he’s doing well!

          (((((((((((((((((((Chewy!)))))))))))))))))))

          thanks for the update! hugs for you!

              Are you giving both meds orally? (you mentioned shots).  How much is the dose?  Has anything been added to it already to sweeten it?

                we were giving baytril tablets ground up in baby food, and we had to give it to her orally.  it was just too much.

                so, we had the baytril compounded, and its much easier now.  plus, i have found that she loves the “Critical care” stuff, so she just eats it out of her food dish.

                everything has resolved itself kind of, so i am going to delete the post.  Thanks though!

                  I do exactly like Beka, just behind the teeth. Then they automatically (if angrily heheh) swallow…I’m so glad Chewy is doing so well!!! No worries to delete the post though! It’s great for others to read!! {{VIBES}}
