When it is just for a check-ups, I just brought both Jack and Vivian. Partly because it kept Jack a bit calmer. If anything it helped strengthen their bond when they would go to the vet together. I have actually though only brought one bunny before and left the bonded mate behind. I have had two different reactions upon their return. Sometimes the mate that stays at the house will just be very interested about the smells on their mate that has returned. Jack liked to spray Rucy. (joy
), and mark more — but he wasn’t ever aggressive. However, Rucy would get aggressive if she didn’t recognize his scent — it wouldn’t last long though.
For me though it’s heavier to carry two, I just think that they can find comfort in each other and help prevent the “You smell weird” response when one returns from the vet.
And as far as catching anything at the vets office, I’ve never had that happen to the rabbit that is along for the ride.
