I have read the forum rules and I want to be sure not to break them so here I am asking before I screw up hehehe.  I found a product that I am interested in buying but am a bit concerned about the safety and would love to link a picture etc JUST to get people’s opinions again about its safety.  I am not trying to sell it but might want to buy one.  Admins, would you be willing to allow me this?  If not I completely understand but figured it could not hurt to ask.

        Thanks

If you’re really concerned about guidelines, just put the product name instead of the link. People can look it up themselves then.
It’s not like we never put product links up here, it more with new members who haven’t posted alot but all their post contain links to things….well you could see how that could look like spam. Once it’s recognized your a legit member then it’s not such an issue. That you’ve read the guidelines and posted to ask if it’s ok tells me you’re a legit member.

            Thank you very much.

What I am looking at is the “Mega Hay Rack” What I am concerned about is the fact that it is screwed together and the screws are low enough that when they start chewing into the wood it is possible that they could reach them (the screws that is). I have avoided building this sort of thing in the past for this exact reason. Do you folks think this would constitute a safety hazard?

Who makes the Mega Hay Rack?

Are you talking about the one from Leith Petwerks? I’ve seriously considered buying this. My feeling is that these are built by rabbit owners for rabbit owners and they know their stuff. You might be concerned about anything though if you thought your rabbit could really chew through that. The do state they may eat through the wooden slats and the give you 2 extras.

Yes that is the one I am looking at. I know my big guy and he definitely will chew into it. My only concern is if he bites into one of the screws…maybe I am being paranoid though LOL. I have had rabbits 6 years and have yet to find a way to keep the hay even reasonably contained. Seems to get all over my place…

You know, I would send them an email and state your concerns and get their response. It certainly might be a concern with a big chewer. I agree about the hay which is why I love the way these racks look.

I will do exactly that. I may also just order one, disassemble it, and then put it back together using wooden dowels instead of screws. They won’t hold as well but…

                      thank you, again

I don’t have personal experience with the rack, but I agree, containing hay is one of those frustrating things.

Regarding posting links, Jersey explained it well. It’s in regard to brand new members repeatedly trying to “sell things” on the forum. You have a legit concern, so that is fine.

haha, this is just what I was going to suggest – the wooden dowels. You could put them only where you would think it would be accessible to bunny teeth. This hay rack was discussed in Habitats recently. Maybe it was you Sarita that bought it up? Not sure if any members have one. It appears the screws are all on the front slats. You might be able to attach a length of wood up each side covering the screws. Attached in some ingenous manner…lol

I again appreciate the benefit of the doubt on this and I have indeed sent them an email. I will let everyone know what they say since it seems I’m not the only one interested in something like this.

Well they responded and while they did answer my question about the wood it’s made of (poplar) they did not really answer about the screws other than why they used screws, which seems fairly obvious heh. Anyways, I’ll order one and replace the lower screws with dowels and I’ll let you know how it works!

That was a quick response! Wow!
