        Hi All,

My boyfriend and I are constructing a new bunny pen and we’re trying to decide which materials are safe to use.  Instead of wood we’d like to use PVC pipe and thick chicken wire.  Is PVC safe for bunnies in case they chew on it?  Also, we are thinking about using one of those washer tubs as the floor.  I know  a lot of other binky bunny people have constructed homeade bunny pens so any advice would be welcome!

PVC should be fine- it should be difficult to chew since it is round- and I do not think you will have any issues with toxicity as drinking water runs thru PVC and we use PVC for plumbing for our saltwater fish tank and it is OK.  Saltwater fish are usually very sensitive- you can not use copper or most other metals in contact with their water.  So if saltwater fish are OK with PVC- I think it is fine for bunnies.

can you describe what a washer tub is? or better yet, can you post a pic?

how will you be able to attach the chicken wire to the pvc?

I am not sure what a washer tub is either…….  Just make sure there are no sharp edges on the wire that the bun could scratch themselves on.
