Purple flowers in orchard grass?

  Theodore and I are doing swimmingly.
  
  The other day, I decided to get him some Orchard Grass, just to switch up his diet a little bit, and because I was curious to see how he would react to it. (He loves it, of course.) This morning, though, I was dishing some out and came across some small purple flowers that had been dried and pressed along with the hay. It looks to be the same as the orchard grass, but I didn’t know that orchard grass had blooms like this – does it? I want to make sure there isn’t some strange and potentially dangerous other plant in here; I’m pretty good with flora and fauna but I can’t identify this – possibly because it really is part of the orchard grass.

  Luna LOVES those! If it looks something like this, then it’s just a normal (and apparently delicious) seed head.

  The flower of that grass is purple. Not certain how purple it would appear in dried form.
  
  Have a look at images of cocksfoot or dactylis.
  
  Possibly it’s an alfalfa flower also, if previous crop was alfalfa. Also has very purple flower.
  
  Do you have a photo?
