        Hello!
So my boy and girl are FINALLY going to be spayed and neutered (my boy was a late bloomer and will be 7 months, the girl will be 8 months) And I am getting them done at the same time so that I can take 3 days off of work and then have the 2 days of the weekend = 5 days to watch over them while they heal.

** Now they are both avid groomers and my vet mentioned the cones… but I know that they wont be able to eat their cecal’s with a cone on.
For the girl, Penny, I saw the idea of making a soft sock cover for her middle (or using a baby onsie) so that it covered her middle but allowed her to still groom her bottom / eat her cecals.
I also so a tube for around their neck… .

Here are examples of what I mean on this website: Post Surgery After Care <-- click here ** However, I am now thinking that wont really work for the boy, Rupert – as if he can reach his bum to eat the cecals than he can reach where his “boys” were.  I’m hoping this wont be an issue and maybe he’ll leave well enough alone – but as much as I’ll be home I will have to sleep lol and I don’t want to wake up to any issues and I really hate the idea of the collar if it can be avoided.  What was your experiences when you had your bunnies done?
        Thanks so much!!!

Wick lightly groomed his incision site, but outside that didn’t do anything with it. There was left-over dried blood surrounding it, so after he got that off, he was good to go.

No cone needed, and I hope that’s the case with you!

Thanks Wick!!! I hope that’s the case too!
I am the queen of “what if” lol and want to be as prepared as possible lol.

Any other tips for spay and neuter after care? I’ve discussed everything with the vet and pain meds and everything will be provided…. And I’ve been researching out the butt hahahah

Anything tips other than the keep them in the cage – with limited movement (*I’ve read 10 days for her – she’s going to go stir crazy lol)

I’ve read a bottle with warm water?

            Thanks!!

My first bun, Stormy, was the only of mine who ever needed to wear a cone after spay/neuter. He was licking the site and made it bleed. We had to help with his cecals, gross, lol, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

This was like 15 years ago and the only option I could find was a small cat one that was made of super hard plastic which I had to cut. Lately, I’ve seen nice soft ones at pet stores.

None of my buns have ever needed cones for neuters or spays, and they all spend a fair bit of time grooming themselves generally. I think it’s quite rare for a bun to actually need them, although some vets do seem to give them as standard.

Only other tip is to have something soft in the cage for them to lie on, and have lots of tempting food on hand.

Thanks S&L – it sounds like they will be giving me a cone as part of the cost, so at least I’ll have it for a worse case. The vet has been very awesome and has even suggested I bring some of their favourite treats with them to help them try to get them to eat after. They wont let them come home until they have had a poop and pee. Good tip about having something soft to lie on after!!

And Little Puffy Tail – I love your profile picture of the crazy cat lady from the Simpsons but with BUNNY’s haha And oh man – their cecals are so stinky! but you’re right. Its all in the name of love hahah.

Thanks! I”m a huge classic Simpson fan. I haven’t watched any of the new stuff for years, though. But I thought this was perfect for my avatar.

Totally un-bunny related lol but The Simpsons has gone down hill – I still actually watch it every Sunday evening hahaha but the writers aren’t as good.

Lol, yeah….should have stopped it years ago. I started watching with the first episode back when I was 8 (Lisa’s age) and still a big fan of those old episodes now that I’m Marge’s age (36)! I drive my husband crazy as I’m always quoting old episodes.
