  How come when I select a photo for my profile picture and update my avatar the picture turns sideways? how do I get this picture to work???

  Sometimes although your computer displays the picture as being upright, it’s saved to be another direction. It could also be because it’s not perfectly square.
  
  Try copy and pasting the image in paint, resizing it to be a square, then saving that as a brand new .jpg image and uploading that.
