So I have a pregnant rabbit named Buster. She’s due in a few days. I accidentally left out a cup of root beer and later found her drinking some of it. Is it gonna affect her or her babies?

Please note the discussion of intentional breeding is prohibited on this site. As a result, many of us will not have experience with or knowledge about pregnant rabbits.

I don’t know if there are specific ingredients in soda that are especially toxic, but I imagine it is a high concentration of sugar. Rabbits tend to nibble on things they should not have and as long as it’s a small quantity, it may be ok.

I would recommend continuing to monitor and  visiting a rabbit experienced vet if you have concerns.

Right, of course. I actually didn’t know she was pregnant until about a week ago and it definitely was not intentional. Mainly I was just wondering if the soda was going to make her sick or end up really hurting the babies’ health. But, she had them last night and they seem to be doing just fine. Thanks anyway

I agree, a small amount probably wouldn’t do any harm. It sounds as if all is ok so far. Make sure she gets lots of food now (unlimited pellets & hay) so she produces adequate milk.

Here’s some more info going forward if you’ve not dealt with Mums & babies before.

I welcome you to create your own topic for your concern Lucas.

A dead bug or two is not uncommon in hay due to how it’s harvested. Simply throw the bug out. It should not cause any issues! People have found dead snakes and birds in their hay at times shockingly!
