Hello! I was just curious if you are able to start prebonding before spaying a bunny. I would keep them apart until my girls surgery. The other bunny is a neutered male. I have not adopted him because I would like advice on this before taking any action. I would not keep them in the same room, just swap items in the enclosure. Thanks!

Hey – Sorry this hasn’t been answered yet.
I can only attest to my two bunnies…. but Yes, I Started pre-bonding before hand.

This is my suggestion, and I’m sure others will chime in…

Normally I would say YES you can pre-bond before they are fixed – I know I sure did.

*** BUT You need to give the new guy a few weeks settle in before you pre-bond so that he can get used to the new home and YOU…. and then with your girl being spayed in just a few weeks you need to give her two weeks to recover before you could start pre-bonding as he will be new to her and you don’t want to add that stress when she’s recovering.

So two weeks after you girls spay you can start pre-bonding – he will be settled into his new home and she will be recovered and not stressed from pain and discomfort.

            Keep us posted

Have they met each other yet? Bunny was intact when he went on his first speed date and met Mrs. Bunny (Now named Lilly). They both immediately showed interest in each other which is what led me to foster her the very same day (and schedule his neuter). After bringing her home, I had an enclosure set up a couple of feet away from his cage. I was told by the rescue that even though they shouldn’t play together just yet, they should still be able to see and smell each other. I alternated letting them out to have playtime and I think having him not too far away from her helped to ease her transition. She wanted nothing to do with me when I first brought her home and would only come out of her little house if he was nearby. It was only until after his surgery that I kept them separated from each other.
