Hi everyone! I transitioned Charlie out of his cage yesterday and am afraid he’s regressing with his good potty training habits. He was in his own room with a cage that always had the door open and in the middle of the night was chewing on his cage from the outside of it – I know usually that stems from boredom, but he gets plenty of interaction and play time, I think he’s just getting spoiled
So I nixed the cage. He never really went in it anyways, so I wasn’t worried getting rid of it. Now he has rugs on the floor so he can hop without sliding and lots of things to hide/tunnel in as well as plenty of toys.
He was a breeze to potty train – took to it almost immediately, and never really has any issues going outside of his box. He’s pretty good about going to his box even if he’s in another room playing. Since I’ve gotten rid of the cage he’s been pooping all over the room (which I know is normal because he’s probably trying to mark his territory because of the change in the room), but he’s also peed on the floor which is unusual for him.
I got him a bigger litterbox when I got rid of the cage, but have also kept his old one in there for the time being. He seems to use the new one now, but randomly will pee and poop outside. Do you think he’ll eventually go back to his good habits?
