I’m so proud of how well Charlie is doing since her spay Monday. She’s eating, drinking, pooping and active. She very much energetic already which is starting to make things difficult.
Yesterday went well as far as being in an exercise pen. Last night she started getting frustrated with the confinement. This morning she is super frustrated wanting out. She’s even doing some growling. She digs the fleece blanket into the pen we have covering the carpet. There’s a plastic table cloth underneath incase she pees outside of box so it doesn’t go into carpet. My husband put weights on the edge of blanket which is outside the pen, but she still can dig blanket into pen and get to plastic. I heard a funny noise this morning and after checking she had just started to chew on plastic. She digs and licks at the blanket, especially near the pen door.
I have plenty of toys for her and new ones to add to help alleviate boredom. This is the morning of day two and I’m not sure how I’m going to make this work for another 5-6 days if she’s so upset already. She’s always been totally free range, only confined to a room at night or if we go out.
We have stairs which she shouldn’t run up and down right now and a sunken living room that wouldn’t be good for her to jump up and down in. I can’t block off stairs because they are an open configuration.
I’m thinking if I can’t keep her calm, about maybe letting her have the den area which is where she normally sleeps. The only thing she could jump on is a recliner which I can pile pillows on to make it too high. There’s a trunk I can remove.
The room is about 12x 15. Probably too much space for this early. She would want to run, which I know she should not do. Maybe some supervised time in room with us laying on floor with her? But that might encourage her to want out of pen even more. We spent a lot of time sitting with her yesterday and my husband sat inside her pen quite a bit.
