Ok, so I’m back! Finally moved into the new house and almost done painting/unpacking stuff. But there is alot that has happend and just wanted to share…

Our lease was up at the house we were in and had a bid on a house and waiting for that to finalize and all that fun stuff my husband, daughter , the bunny boys and myself stayed with my friend, her husband and her son that’s the same age as my daughter and are playbuddies. We all stayed in their guest room..yep 2 buns, a 1 year old and us- luckily their guestroom was pretty big. The boys weren’t getting along to well so we had them seperated but as much as the boys had their tifs they seemed to miss each other, I guess a love hate relationship. lol.  So Riley at this point is old enough to get neutered and we take him to the SPCA. His apt is just a few days before we close on our house which was perfect so he could heal. Well this is where it gets crazy…

I went to drop Riley off, first thing was they gave me a after care sheet of what to do and look for. Yeah that was not good info, luckily from this stie and House Rabbit Society I knew what to look for and do. Bad thing is if other Rabbit guardians go and didn’t do their research it’d be bad since the info was geared for dogs/cats :-(   Then I go and pick him up. They said he did great but I asked to just make sure they went through the testicles or not and they didn’t know and asked if I would want to wait and talk to the vet. So I did, read this with thinking of taking care of a 1 year old and a scared rabbit inside a small SPCA clinic. Finally the vet comes out and to my surpirse was told he was not neutered!! I would have walked out thinking he was and if I got a girlfriend for him and was not yet spayed would have been prego!! Soo the vet said he searched 45 min and could not find his little guys and didn’t want to have him under any longer. He called in Bilateral Chrictortis and I’d have to wait for them to come down and then get him neutered!! So our little boy goes through all that stress for nothing.

        Then is gets worse…

Once we moved into the new house we wanted to take the boys to our their vet who specializes in rabbits to just check them up and see if they are ok from all the moves and stress pluse the people we stayed with had a flea investation that would not go away (they tried everything) but luckily they were in our room and the cats never went in and the dog lives downstairs. But we just wanted to make sure non had hitched a ride on our boys. Atleast they didn’t get fleas.  Well while we are at the vets Mr.B gets looked at first….first lop my vet has seen with clean ears she said..{good news}…ahhh {oh great now what} Mr.B needs his molars grinded they are starting to get a little sharp {ok, well make an apt} Mr.B is a healthy boy {thats wonderful. Now Riley’s turn…teeth good..ears good…his incision from the neuter is infected {CRAP!}. Poor little man after all he’s been through and didn’t even get what we went for accomplished now he has an infection! So we got some antibiotics that we have to give him for a week and come back.

GIVING RILEY LIQUID ORAL MEDICINE IS WORSE THEN GIVING A CAT A BATH. It was just a struggle and this was 2x a day. Even with a bunny burrito.

Well we go back in to the vets to see how he’s doing. Not good at all! :-(  Our vet says its bad as she’s feeling the scabbed area and as she does it puss comes out, alot of it! She says it doesn’t look good and she is tyring to figure out if he has an abcess by the skin or if it’s got into the muscle which if the muscle one happend then its extremely bad and he’ll get really sick and die!! So I’m about to burst into tears and then she says that it’s good its by the skin and it can just be surgically removed. That’s wonderful news to hear vs. he might die. So we get more anitbiotics this time it  is liquid oral 1x a day plus …yuck… penicilin by needle injection 1x a day. I am terrified on needles, hate hate hate them. I’ve passed out for 2 hourse before they even put an IV in my arm before! So the nurse shows me how to do it…yuck.. I get the hebbie jebbies just thinking about them.

So I tell my husband about what needs to be done and the meds needed to be given. Stinker plays the “the vet showed you how to” card in getting out of doing the needle even after I said I’d show him and he could do them. ANywho I swallow my fear for a couple minutes aday for our little boy.

Well Riley had his surgery yesterday and all went very well!!! YAY!!! my Ri Ri is such a tropper. The vet said he’s ready to be picked up and the suregery did well… plus the abcess is completely out and said it was actually attached to one of the testicles and it was removed but she didn’t search for the other. So he’s a half neutie. LOL. She knows the whole story of his neuter and what happend and what the vet said. The thing is is the SPCA on top of giving bad post op info they never gave pain meds!

Riley is doing allot better and is happy and wants to get out of his cage and back in his condo. He has all his meds and pain med to take and in 10 days he’s going back to get his staples out. Then its’ Mr.B’s molar grind.

Money spent in just 2 weeks on Riley= $450+

        Riley living=priceless

OH my goodness what a story. I would have totally lost it at the SPCA, seriously, if that had happened to me, I’d probably never be allowed back inthere!! Holy good on you for keeping your composure!!

So glad he’s doing well and your all settled in your new place!! If he’s a half neutie-does that mean he has to goin again?

OMG!! That is unbelievable!  How awful for you and Riley.  And these people call themselves vets!  Does this mean he has to have surgery again? I’m so sorry all this happened to you.

Oh, I’m so glad Riley is okay!

I know SPCA’s are all different all over the country and our SPCA doesn’t do rabbit spays and neuters – only for the rabbits in their care of course that are going to be adopted.

I think doing injections is almost as easy as doing oral in my opinion – I hate do either but it seems injections are easier because it goes so much quicker and no struggling bunny trying to medicate by mouth.

Anyway, I’m so glad Riley is okay and it sounds like your vet is very good.

geee what a weird vet. gosh well thank God Riley survived all this craziness poor guy. he is aa toughie. yes those needles I had a major needle phobia too. had lots of surgeries as a child and whew. I pass out all the time and once even wet myself from passing out. geesh. well at 39 I had to take allergy shots. once a week the trip got to be a pain since hubby had to take me I don’t drive. finally I got brave and give myself my own shots wowee my phobia almost gone good for you and your courage in giving the shot to MR. Riley bun. is he going in to get his neuter finished with a diff vet needless to say on that point? hey I hope you know which testicle they got so the other vet will know which one to go in for. gee what a nightmare you been so bzy hopping from moving to vets unpacking etc. gosh I hope this is over now and you are settled once and for all no more moving.

Aw poor little Riley – what a lot of events he has going on! Its so great that you have helped him out so much with all the medical attention he has needed, I know he appreciates it and I know the medication giving is tough, but quite often, after having to give meds to their bunnies I’ve heard people say that they and their bunny have become even more bonded together, so something good may come out of the medication giving! (well, something good in ADDITION to his better health!)
