Gizmo my little runty, who turned out to be the boss of all my little babies is now the one being picked on.
For a few days, I have heard screams and fur on the ground but could not see who was getting hurt and who was doing it. I finally found out it was Gizmo getting hurt and have noticed Peanut and Tigerlily doing it, I am not sure if anyone else is also hurting him.
As he is separated, I would like to find one or two of the others to share his condo with him.
Any suggestions on how I would do this, as I do not know if any others are hurting him.
Poor Gizmo! Can you slowly introduce him to the other rabbits (other than Peanut & Tigerlilly) to see if you can get him accepted again?
I might try putting Peanut and Tigerlilly in the other condo and putting Gizmo back with the others, I can then keep a close eye on them and make sure no one else is hurting him.
He is scared the poor little man, I feel so bad, but it wasn’t easy finding out who was doing it and who was getting hurt. I had to go out my back yard and sneak around to the window, so they couldn’t see me and watch for a while thats when I noticed who it was.
Poor Gizmo … I hope that they don’t continue to pick on him…
Unfortunately, a runt will be picked on, sometimes fatally, because of the pecking order rule that only the strongest survive. I feel sorry for your poor little guy, Is there any chance he can stay in one place by himself or is he too bonded to other buns?
When we had chickens, there was one white hen that was smaller than all the others. She always stayed well out of range of the rest of the flock because they would peck the crud out of her if she got to close to any of them, or to the food. I literally had to carry her around with me all the time because she wasn’t safe by herself. She was a sweet, gentle thing, but I think also a bit sad. I loved her dearly and she seemed to like my personal attention. ^^
He was the runt of the litter, he is now tha same size and he was the boss but now that has all changed again.
I just went in and there is more fur over the floor, someone else is getting hurt and I don’t know who. 🙁
He is on his own but he looks sad, I guess he wants to be with the others.
Not so sure that’s why. He might just still hurt and look sad because he doesn’t feel all that well. I’m afraid putting him back might be more of the problem rather than the reason he’s sad. Maybe give him a day or two more away from them while you figure out who the bully is or who else is being attacked?
oh poor gizmo!
i think putting the other two in their own space would be best, and then just monitor incase anyone else picks on him
You said there was also another one getting hurt…(besides Gizmo?) If i understood that correctly, maybe if you can do your sneaky sneak again you can find out who else is getting picked on again then maybe that one can go in with Gizmo? For some reason I find it really cute, and endearing to picture you sneaking around and peeking in on them. What a funny picture I have in my head now.
Does your camera or cell phone have video on it? Maybe you could keep it recording and leave the room and find out that way too.
LOL BB I should be a private investigator.
I don’t think the cell phone will record for that long, I will check and see.
I think it might be a brown one as I saw brown fur on the floor; and at the moment the other 5 rabbits including mum are getting along with each other, Marley or Zippy are not mouting, the fur has defiantly been pulled out.
I saw a brown one on its own so I put that one with Gizmo. They have been together a couple of days but now I can see Gizmo’s fur on the ground again, so they must have had a fight.
I do not know who can go with whom now, I am getting confused. I just do not want any of them getting hurt. It was better when they were off from the kitchen I could see them more, unfortunatly I cannot put them there anymore. They are now in a bedroom and it’s harder to keep an eye on them.
Apparently, we have a rabbit rescue here in Perth that the rabbit vet told me about, I rang them yesterday and left a message and have not had a reply; I thought they might be able to help me in finding good homes for the babies.
I wish it were easy to let them go
(((lisa))) being a bunny mom to so many sounds very very busy to say the least. poor giz! i’m wondering if its harder on you to separate him from the others than it is on him because you’re so used to seeing them all together. hopefully you hear back from the rabbit rescue & that you’ll be able to work with them comfortably to find homes for the buns. i would think that a rescue would give as careful consideration as you would for finding great homes.
oo poor Gizmo
You may want to give him a stuffed bunny to keep him company. It’s so hard when you know somebunny is getting picked on like that.
how soon will it be before you try to find them homes? If it is going to be soon, you might really consider if you should bond him with another bunny. adopting out a pair is always more challenging than a single bun.
Poor Gizmo!!
Lisa, it’s hard to find rabbit wounds (Kokanee and Rupert got into it once, they both had booboos and it was soooo hard to find them); If you hear a scrap, its easiest to find wounds using a blowdrier on ‘cool’ and searching the whole body (the blowdryer moves the fur effectively for a search)-Rupert’s booboo I found only by feeling, and it took a while then too, I rubbed his whole body over and finally found it.
When/If you do find a booboo, you can just put some neosporin/polysporin on it (not the ‘plus’ kind though-not sure why).
Good luck getting a situation to work out with no more fighting!!
Neosporin ‘plus’ has some kind of pain/itch killer in it which is bad for bunnies. The plain neosporin is just a topical antibiotic in a cream form.
Thanks!! ![]()
I think the one really getting hurt was a brown bunny, Marley or Zippy. I saw white fur and Gizmo running around so I thought it was him getting hurt.
I put him in the other condo and then noticed brown fur on the ground so I ended up putting the both brown ones in with Gizmo. The next morning they started again, this time it was a brown one with ruffled fur and some on the grown.
I put the other brown one and Gizmo back in with the others and now all seems fine. I just put mum in with the brown one to see how they go so Zippy/Marley won’t be lonely, I am crossing my fingers there will be no more fighting.
good grief lisa you really have earned yourself a phd in bunny juggling! i’m glad you have sorted it out. hopefully they all start to behave now, those wascally wabbits!
Crossing fingers, all is great now no more fighting and it’s been two days.
