So it is now thursday and daisy has been eating celery for one week now gradually increasing the amonts. Well this morning I woke up and was going to feed ehr some celery and noticed a poopy butt. I didn’t have time to clean ehr butt this morning because it takes so long and I didn’t know what might happen while I was gone today. I will be at home all day tomorrow to watch her. But is this because fo the celery? That is theonly difference in her diet or environemnt, anything. Should I continue the celery and it will fade or waht. Thanks

How much did you increase the amount to, and how much total veg does she get now? I’d recommend re-lowering the amounts to see if that improves the poop butt – sounds like she’s got quite the sensitive tummy

I increased to about 1 cup per day. I have now decreased it back down while also lowering the amount of pellets to very little and I have noticed her hay consumption has increased and surprisingly she normally has a lot of extra cecal pellets that she doesn’t consume and i always just clean it up and it usually clusters of them well now it is just maybe five little grapes in a whole day instead of five big clusters in a day so maybe thats all she needed. thanks

also, it’s generally best to offer several veggies. things that are darker green tend to have the most nutrients. i wonder if part of the issue was offering so much of a single veggie that’s lighter green. perhaps slowly introduce some darker veggies in small quantities one at a time?

as poopy mentioned – hay consumption is very importants.

also make sure to limit treats if she’s having tummy issues

my vet mentioned celery has no nutritional value for them….though i will occasionally include it if I happen to have celery tops I don’t need….I think rabbits love the taste.

My vet said that cerely has too much water and no nutrients so maybe the wateriness is making her poopy, my vet said not to feed it to them. HTH

Mine seem to enjoy the crunch of the celery.  Like you guys, I only feed it when I have some extra lying around.  During the winter months I make soup alot, so I often have extra celery leaves that I give to the buns along with their regular salad.

                          Hi,

Even though celery is on some bunny veggie lists it should be in limited quantity..one cup is too much, because its a lighter vegitable it is not that good to give in larger quantities as in this case, it will lead to poopy but which it has.

The key to veggies is to offer 3 different daily so they get different nutrition. Too much of one thing is not good can cause them to get sick and they dont get nutrition that they need from other greens. Dark leafy greens are important to give as well. Some greens that are good to try are cilantro, dill, basil, mint, romaine red or green leaf lettuce, endive, swiss chard red or green, parsely, kale, carrot tops. The last three mentioned should be given in moderation too much given over long period of time can lead to kidney and sludge problems because contain too much calcium.

I think you should take celery out of her diet does not have much nutritional benefit and it is causing her poopy but. You can try replacing it with some of the greens stated above, slowly introduce them.
